Alya used to stare at Troy with hollow abandoned eyes, hoping he would stop the car, take her along, and not leave her behind.
But her eyes had changed.
She was still outside the car-but this time, it was Ayla who had gotten out.
A taxi happened to pass by. Ayla raised her hand, opened the door, and got in.
She shut the door. The car headed toward the airport.
She already had a destination in mind.
She and Troy were no longer going the same way. There was no need to walk the same road, and she no longer hoped he’d take her along.
Because now, she could get there on her own.
Ayla drove her Range Rover from the airport, all the way back to her home.
She felt lighter and more certain than she ever had.
After signing the divorce papers, she started seeing Troy clearly without the rose-colored filter. And when she did, she saw the truth.
The truth was, when Troy pulled her out of the ocean, it was just an instinct to save someone-not some miracle. But she had seen him as her salvation, the light that lifted her out of the grief of losing her mother, guiding her toward a new life.
Now, she saw it differently. These past three years, she had been stuck in the valley because that light never came. So how could there have been salvation?
Skyla was right.
She had been in the depths.
But she was also wrong too.
Because now, she was climbing out-one step at a time, going uphill.
For someone who had already hit rock bottom, every direction was uphill.
Things had gotten so bad, there was nowhere left to go but forward.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
The screen lit up with a name she hadn’t seen there in a long time. It was Troy.
She declined the call.

He called again.
She declined once more, and he still kept calling.
Just like how she had once tried to reach him again and again, only to be ignored.
How ironic.
Ayla had never imagined she and Troy would come to this point.

But now that she had let go of her illusions, her expectations, her hopes-she no longer cared about his wealth, his status, or the fact that he had once held all the power in their marriage.
Because now, in her heart, she was his equal.
She didn’t end the next call. She just let it ring out.
Then she silenced the phone and placed it face down on the passenger seat.
She headed to the villa where she and Troy had lived for three years.
There was only one thing she hadn’t taken with her.
The package from Halle.
Inside was 1.5 billion dollars.
Everything else-people, things, memories-she had no attachment to hold on. Nothing worth keeping it.
Because she didn’t want any of it.
Martin didn’t go straight back to Winston Estate.
Halfway there, he got a call from Draven.
The two met up at a private museum.
The museum had just acquired an original work from an ancient artist. Draven had tipped Martin off, and that was why Martin came back early.
He admired the piece and was satisfied.
Afterward, they sat in the museum’s courtyard, sipping tea and chatting.
Martin smiled. “You really are the most thoughtful. You always know exactly what I like.”
Draven replied calmly, “I didn’t get to meet you at the airport. That’s hardly thoughtful.”
Martin waved it off. “No worries. You’re not my only grandson. Troy came to pick me up. He and Ayla are both very considerate.”

Draven’s hand paused slightly as he lifted his teacup. “They were together?”
Didn’t Ayla say she was going to talk to Martin?

But judging by Martin’s reaction, it didn’t seem like she complained. More like she was being sweet with Troy, winning their grandfather over.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
