Skyla got out of the car. Troy sat in the back seat without moving. She asked hopefully, “Troy, do you want to come up and take a look?”
Troy replied, “I still have things to do.”
Skyla didn’t dare to push him. Having just heard that Ayla had received Draven’s help, she wanted more of Troy’s attention to prove she was still better than Ayla, that she hadn’t been outdone.
Troy’s refusal made her feel a trace of unwillingness and disappointment.
Skyla could only hold it in. “Alright then, get some rest.”
The car window rolled up, blocking Troy’s handsome, cold profile. The car slowly drove away.
Skyla walked toward the office building. After a few steps, she suddenly turned around, her face pale.
There was another change in Troy after the divorce.
His left ring finger was bare. He wasn’t wearing the matching ring anymore.
Skyla wasn’t sure if Troy had forgotten to wear it or if he wouldn’t wear it anymore.
If it was the latter…
She suddenly found it hard to accept.
Often, a relationship getting better or worse isn’t about the big fights or arguments. Maybe it’s the silent changes in small details.
Skyla hoped she was overthinking it.
The driver saw Skyla through the rearview mirror. He hesitated, then spoke up, “Mr. Winston, Ms. Summer is still standing there watching. Does she have something to say?”
Troy rested with his eyes closed and didn’t answer.
The driver said nothing more and sped up a little.
Only when Skyla could no longer see the car did she snap out of it and head to Zane’s company.
In the conference room, Zane was throwing a fit. The technical staff from the attacked game project were bearing the brunt of Zane’s fury.
Skyla didn’t interrupt. Instead, she stood outside the conference room for a while. Only when Zane noticed her did he calm down, then came out with a cold expression.
Skyla turned and went to his office, sitting in Zane’s usual seat and looking at him coldly.

Seeing her like this, Zane laughed bitterly. “You didn’t come here just to give me attitude, did you?”
Skyla said coldly, “Can’t you stay calm when things go wrong? Do you think yelling and making a scene solves anything?”
Zane exploded. “Is that not allowed? Something this shitty happens, and I can’t be angry? If it weren’t for Brandon and those useless people, would my game have gotten hacked? Skyla! If you just came here to lecture me, then please leave!”
Skyla’s expression darkened further, but she also knew now wasn’t the time to criticize him. “Take me to see it.”
Zane knew Skyla had technical skills. He took a few breaths to calm his rage, then brought Skyla to the tech department.
Skyla didn’t understand. As long as the database could be repaired, why was Zane still so angry?
Back when Emmett was asking everyone for help, looking for technical experts, her assistant Jessica had shown her the specific issues. After evaluating it, she was confident she could fix it within a month.
This time, she could still solve it.
So Skyla really didn’t understand Zane.
But when she understood the current situation, she was stunned. The entire database had been completely formatted. Everything was gone. How was this even possible?
She could decrypt high-level encryption, but with nothing there, how could she conjure something out of thin air?
Skyla’s face turned ashen.
Zane asked irritably, “You can’t do it?”
Skyla shook her head and explained the reason clearly to him, saying through gritted teeth, “They went too far.”
Although Brandon had already told him the worst-case scenario, Zane still couldn’t accept it. He was so angry that his head was spinning. His hatred for Kaleb ran deep.
When Brandon attacked, he’d only locked the programs and planted viruses throughout the data, making it unusable. Although it was paralyzed, finding an expert and spending some time could still recover and copy the data. So why, when it was his turn, was everything completely gone? All progress had been reset to zero. All his early investments had gone down the drain.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
