Zane could only hope that when Juliet taught Kaleb a lesson, it would make Kaleb feel at least a little bad.

But Kaleb didn’t care about anything. Even if he felt bad, it wouldn’t be by much.

Zane collapsed on the couch, his face gloomy. He was the one who looked like a complete failure.

Juliet hung up the phone with a frown and called Kaleb.

That was when she realized she’d been blocked.

That was totally something Kaleb would do.

Juliet had no choice but to call Ayla. When Ayla answered, Juliet got straight to the point. “Is Kaleb with you?”

Ayla glanced at Kaleb sprawled out on the couch. “No, why?”

Kaleb suddenly lifted his head, signaling her to turn on speakerphone.

Ayla put it on speaker.

Juliet said, “Something happened to Zane’s company. You two did it, right?”

The moment Zane told her, she’d been certain Kaleb and Ayla had done it.

Kaleb’s face was full of mockery when he heard this.

Ayla said coolly, “I don’t have time to pay attention to Zane’s affairs.”

Juliet asked, “So Kaleb’s company problems really were resolved?”

They were talking past each other.

Ayla frowned. “I already told you at the restaurant. If you don’t believe me, what can I do?”

Juliet asked, “Did you personally help?”

Kaleb suddenly jumped up, frantically gesturing and shaking his head. Don’t say it, absolutely don’t say it!

Ayla followed his lead. “It wasn’t me.”

Juliet wasn’t particularly surprised. She said flatly, “You got the upper hand this time. Let’s call it even. Don’t cause trouble for Zane going forward.”

Kaleb’s face turned ashen. If he didn’t have to pretend he wasn’t there, he would absolutely have cursed her

out.

Ayla let out a cold laugh. “Juliet, you should be saying that to Zane. Tell him not to provoke us. Otherwise, I won’t let him off.”

Juliet said, “You really can’t let things go even when you’re ahead. You don’t even respect me as your aunt anymore. I try to talk to you nicely, and I have to listen to you lecture me.”

Ayla replied, “Juliet, since you don’t want to hear what I have to say, then mind your own business. Because I don’t like hearing what you have to say either.”

Juliet was speechless.

She was clearly angry. After a few seconds of silence, she hung up.

Ayla looked coldly at her phone, her eyes like ice.

Kaleb had been furious, but Ayla’s counterattack was very satisfying. Besides, her performance was very unexpected.

Ayla really had changed after the divorce. She’d become aggressive.

This was exactly what Kaleb liked.

“I was actually worried you’d…”

Ayla suddenly looked up. “You’re finally admitting you worry about me.”

Kaleb’s expression stiffened. “Narcissist.”

Ayla looked at him. “Why didn’t you want me to say it?”

Kaleb said, “Why tell her? She looks down on you, so you have to prove how capable you are? If you do that, you’re just letting others lead you around by the nose! Even if you prove yourself, people like them will just find new reasons to look down on you. As long as they can keep looking down on you, they can keep being arrogant. They’ll never admit you’re excellent. So why give them the satisfaction?”

Kaleb wasn’t the type to make others feel good. He was full of tricks and schemes. “Better to play them for fools. Even if they curse at me a few times, I don’t take it to heart. But if they really piss me off, I can destroy them too.”

After speaking, Kaleb raised an eyebrow at Ayla, then suddenly held out his hand.

Ayla looked puzzled, “What?”

“High five.” Kaleb smiled for once.

His cold, cool features softened, taking on a bit of youthful warmth. His gaze was very clean, and the light in his eyes was full of vibrant vitality, full of energy and anticipation for the future.

Ever since Ayla divorced, life seemed to keep getting better.

Ayla understood. With a “smack,” she high-fived him in celebration of victory.

“This matter is settled.” A sharp edge flashed through Ayla’s cool eyes, sharp and cold. She would protect the people and things she wanted to protect.
