After they dumped him out of the car, Casey even heard animals howling in the mountains. His legs almost gave out on the spot.

Draven said, “You should’ve called the police.”

“I… I didn’t think of that…”

Draven asked, “Why didn’t you call your parents?”

Casey clenched his jaw. “I didn’t want them to worry.”

He clenched his fists. “Getting into Trensea Academy of Dramatic Arts cost my family a lot. We don’t have much money, but they still supported me through my art exams so I could chase my acting dream. I only ever want to tell them good news. This just happened out of nowhere. I don’t dare tell them. I don’t want them stressing over me.”

Casey had always been good-looking, but looks never meant special treatment.

In college, he went to countless auditions and worked nonstop as a background actor.

He even got a few small roles with lines, but every time, he’d be replaced at the last minute for different

reasons.

So up until now, he still hadn’t properly filmed a real project.

Casey was just a regular guy—no background, no connections, and barely any life experience.

Something like that happening all of a sudden scared him badly.

Ayla finally understood why an acting student would take work as a male escort. He really needed the

money.

And the hesitation earlier came from embarrassment. He had no one to lean on.

She comforted him gently. “Why didn’t you tell me this back then?”

“It didn’t feel right to say all that the first time we met.”

Casey had hit roadblocks in acting, but he was young, motivated, and still hopeful. He didn’t think his life was rough.

Not until today. It felt like he’d gotten his first real taste of the world, and it hit hard.

He never imagined someone would actually kidnap another person out of jealousy.

Only now did he realize how reckless it had been to message Ayla so impulsively.

He never thought Ayla would actually drive out to find him.

He bent forward and bowed to both of them. “I’m sorry. I didn’t think it through. I won’t bother you again.”

Ayla grabbed his shoulders and pulled him upright.

Casey turned his face away, too scared to meet her eyes, nothing like the confident smile he wore when working as a male escort.

Now he looked shy, worried about causing trouble, overly cautious.

“I believe you. Come with us,” Ayla said.

Draven’s eyes dropped to her hand on Casey’s shoulder.

He stepped over and pulled her hand away.

Then, he gave Casey a casual glance.

Ayla glanced at the hand Draven was holding, then looked up at him

Noticing her stare, he met her eyes.

She caught a trace of displeasure in his eyes.

Why did he seem faintly hostile toward Casey?

Normally, Draven wouldn’t even notice someone like Casey, let alone react emotionally.

What was going on?

Draven let go of Ayla’s hand.

But Casey, startled, stepped back. The dirt road was uneven and unpaved. He lost his footing, fell backward, and landed hard on a small rock. Pain shot through him, and his face twisted.

He didn’t dare cry out, only letting out a muffled yelp.

He hadn’t expected to fall. It was painfully embarrassing.

He hoped no one saw it. But when he looked up, two pairs of eyes were fixed on him.

His face burned red. He jumped up, turned sideways, and didn’t dare say a thing, standing stiff like a kid being scolded.

Ayla and Draven were both speechless.

Casey was way too jumpy. He wasn’t even close to being as sharp as Kaleb.

Ayla looked back at Draven. “Still think he’s lying?”
