Fabiola was an only child—no siblings to split the inheritance with. One day, she’d inherit her father’s multibillion-dollar pharma conglomerate, a bona fide Zheron princess through and through.

Having a princess like that helping her put Melody in a fantastic mood. She ground out, viciously, “I want her little company to go bankrupt.”

Fabiola smiled. “Funny, so do I.”

Melody blinked, a little surprised. “You don’t like her either? Are you doing this for me?”

Fabiola fluttered her lashes. “Of course.”

“Perfect. Her little entertainment studio is a total makeshift circus. It hasn’t even been around that long. It’s nothing compared to Stargaze Entertainment. If you make a move, they won’t stand a chance.”

Fabiola said lightly, “It’s a small company. I don’t even have to go hard. If we just keep poaching the talent she wants, we can bleed her out.”

Melody knew the industry well enough. Training artists was expensive up front. If an agency had no performers, no “product” to send into the market, there was no way to make money.

When Melody hated someone, she hated everything about them. Her hostility toward Ayla ran deep.

She was already looking forward to the day Ayla ended up like a drowned rat, scrambling and hopeless.

Fabiola soothed her. “Melody, don’t stress so much. Think about it-Ayla’s divorced. You really think Draven’s mother is going to like that? And career-wise, what does she have on her résumé besides being a secretary at Storm Group? That’s it. Meanwhile, you’re an artist. Your gallery shows are sold out; one painting can go for over a million. There is no universe where Ayla outshines you. You need a little faith in yourself, okay?”

Every word hit Melody right where it needed to. She ate that kind of reassurance right up.

That had been her original stance anyway-Ayla had never even made it onto her radar.

It was only after seeing how good Ayla and Draven looked together-and then finding out they were neighbors-that she’d started to panic.

But in reality, things were nowhere near as bad as she’d spun them in her head.

With her mood buoyed again, Melody got curious. “Fabiola, you’re only a month older than Ayla, and you’ve never even dated. There’s really no one you like?”

“My dad treats me too well. I honestly don’t think any man in the world could treat me the way he does. So yeah, it’s hard for anyone to really move me.”

“But what about guys who are super charming? That feeling where a man just pulls you in?”

“There’ve been one or two. But once I got to know them, they were boring. None of them came close to my dad. Honestly disappointing.” She said, “I only have one goal-I want my dad to love me for the rest of his life..Nobody is allowed to steal him from me,”

Melody chuckled. “Then, you really don’t have to worry. You’re his only kid. There’s no competition.”

Fabiola smiled, the curve of her lips not quite reaching her eyes. “Right. Lucky for me, I’m his only daughter. Otherwise, I’d be living in constant fear someone might try to steal my dad away.”

The moment she finished, Fabiola’s phone buzzed.

“It’s my dad.”

Melody sighed, genuinely impressed. “Your dad really dotes on you.”

Fabiola answered, her face lighting up with the easy joy of someone who’d grown up adored. When she hung up, Melody asked, a little sour, “What did your dad say this time?”

“I told him I had some fruit this morning that was a bit too sour. So, he said he’d mail me some really good honey. And when he heard I wanted to stay in Trensea for a while, he decided to send the housekeeper who’s been with me since I was little, to help manage everything here- food, clothes, daily stuff. That way I don’t have to worry about anything.”

Melody finally understood why Fabiola had zero interest in dating. “Your dad is literally a once-in-a-lifetime dad.”

“Melody, you’ve still got a bunch of exhibits and interviews lined up, plus you’re stalking your crush. Why don’t you just stay at my place for a while? The villa’s huge. It’s a bit lonely on my

own.”

Melody grinned. “Deal. I’ll mooch some of that fatherly love off your dad while I’m at it.”

A few days later, the scab on Ayla’s knee finally fell off, revealing new, pink skin underneath.

Draven carefully smoothed on a medicated gel, entirely focused on her knee.

Ayla herself didn’t care about this kind of thing, but he did. It weighed on him.

Whenever she complained it was too much fuss, Draven would say she didn’t need to think about it-he’d remember for her.

Even Juliana had never given her this kind of quiet, constant care that seeped into everything without fanfare.

Her mom only ever held the steering wheel on the big stuff-more life coach than hands-on

caretaker.

As for Phil, Ayla had never truly felt “fatherly love” from him. There had to be a trace of it somewhere, she supposed, but it was blurred and distant, almost impossible to recall. Phil was a serious man by nature; if he did care, he was terrible at showing it.

That was why Draven’s kindness always left her a little stunned, like she was being spoiled beyond what she deserved.

He was good at taking care of people—the same way he could remember James and the others’ favorite dishes.

With her, he was even more attentive, more meticulous, with no ceiling in sight.

Ayla had seen the worst of Troy. His ugliest sides were etched in crystal clarity in her memory,

The two half-brothers might share blood, but they were completely different men.

Maybe Troy had left a scar on her heart. Maybe Draven just loved harder. Either way, the better he treated her, the more Ayla felt an inexplicable sense of guilt, like she owed him something she couldn’t name.

In less than half a month, it would be Draven’s birthday.

Ayla was already thinking hard on what to get him, quietly sketching out plans in her head. She wanted it to be a real surprise.
