Ayla had heard enough. She turned to Isabella. “Isabella, now that we’ve got the whole story, did you already tell Troy?”
“I’ve explained everything to Mr. Winston,” Isabella said. “But since Ms. Bria was hurt, you two need to stay and answer for it.”
Ayla’s expression tensed. “And Bria setting a whole ambush for Kaleb? What about that?”
“You can bring that up with Mr. Winston,” Isabella said coolly. “But Ms. Bria’s the one who got hurt. If Mr. Winston wants to push this, he’s got every right.”
Ayla’s face hardened.
So that was it. They found a crack and were going to run with it.
If Bria hadn’t gotten hurt, she’d have been the one catching heat. She would’ve had to say
sorry.
But she did get hurt.
Yeah, she asked for it. But at the end of the day, she still ended up injured. And the Winstons? They didn’t let stuff like that slide. Even a paper cut on one of their own had to be paid back in full.
Especially when it was Bria. Bria, who’d been pampered her whole life. Bria, who’d gotten scratched, and suddenly the whole family acted like it was war. She needed stitches in her hand. To Bria, that was practically a fatal wound,
Kaleb, on the other hand, couldn’t take another second of Isabella’s smug tone. Bria had clearly planned to jump him. If he hadn’t been able to fight, he’d be in a hospital bed right now.
And now they were acting like he was the problem? Like he was some thug that needed to be dealt with? It was sickening. The Winstons were a damn joke.
But Kaleb held it in.
Because Ayla was here. He’d learned to rein it in-for her.
Ayla could talk her way out of anything. If he lost it now, he’d just make it harder on her. He didn’t want to be the screw-up brother anymore. He wanted to have her back for once.
Sure, he’d already made a mess. Again. It wasn’t his fault, but it still landed Ayla in the middle

of it.
He said he’d deal with it, but she stayed anyway. And that made him feel okay for the first time all day.
Ayla always stepped up for him.
She didn’t even blink at Isabella’s little threats. She just sat next to Kaleb like she owned the place.
Isabella watched the two of them in silence. Same sharp eyes. Same resting ice face. That cold, cutting edge ran in their blood.
She was only now starting to really understand Ayla. And she wasn’t about to underestimate her.
And Kaleb? He was rare. Way too calm for someone his age. Even during the kidnapping, the kid kept his cool. And he could fight. The rich brats who filmed the whole thing had only wanted to laugh at him. Instead, they caught themselves getting wrecked on camera.
That video? It showed a wolf tearing through them. None of those kids had half his drive. Physically, they didn’t even compare.
Before Ayla showed up, Kaleb barely said a word. Not because he was scared. Because he didn’t think anyone here was worth talking to.
But once Ayla arrived, the sarcasm started slipping out. That was what family did to you. Let you breathe a little.
Isabella finally looked away. Just in time for Troy to walk in.
The second those rich kids saw his face, they froze in place. They all backed up fast, plastering themselves to the wall like scared little kids, praying Bria would come out and bail them out.
Kaleb stared straight at Troy like he’d just walked into enemy territory,
Isabella moved behind Troy, like clockwork.
Ayla looked up.
Her eyes met his. His face looked worse than she expected.
She and Kaleb both stood. Troy didn’t look away from her. His stare was intense. Not angry like before. Just … hard to read. But Ayla didn’t care what was going through his head. She came to shut this down.

“Bria took things out on my brother. She started it. She owes Kaleb an apology.”
Troy’s mouth pulled into a slight smile. “Fine.”
Ayla paused. That easy?
Even Isabella looked thrown.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
