Chapter 496 Future
Besides, he simply couldn’t accept breaking up with Ayla.
After everything today, he felt even more certain.

Draven admitted things were moving fast. They hadn’t been together long, hadn’t shared much time, yet he was already thinking about a lifetime.
He was sure Ayla was the only one for him.
If she ever left him, he’d be alone forever. He wouldn’t have the strength or desire to love anyone else again.
Those words were his way of testing her.
It wasn’t like Ayla had fallen for Troy and immediately dreamed of marriage.
She had never talked about the future.
He needed to feel things out early.
Deep down, Ayla was truly shaken.
Draven wasn’t talking about their agreed two years of pretending to date. He was talking about growing old together.
After divorcing Troy, she had already decided she would never marry again.
Once she made up her mind, she rarely changed it.
Even though things with Draven were passionate and completely different from before, she refused to lose herself again. Marriage felt like a terrifying cage she couldn’t step into twice.
Besides, marriage itself wasn’t anything special.
A loveless marriage was pure suffering.
If love itself were sweet, then that piece of paper meant nothing.
Ayla couldn’t get past her resistance to marriage.
She didn’t know how to tell Draven about this decision.

If he didn’t see it the same way, being honest would create distance. Even if she pretended it didn’t matter, it would still affect them.
And they had just started. Why think so far ahead? Life never follows plans anyway.
She had once imagined a future with Troy and dreamed even further ahead, but reality crushed that fantasy.
Whether because of her hatred of marriage or her past, she no longer dreamed about the future.
All Ayla cared about was now.
She cared about how it felt to be with Draven.
She blinked and smoothly changed the subject. “What if I give you other gifts? Clothes too. I bought everything in your current size, things that fit your age. I just want to see how you look wearing them now.”
Draven was sharp.
She was dodging the topic.
She didn’t want to think that far ahead.
In the end, her feelings for him were different from what she’d felt for Troy.
It stung a little, but there was nothing he could do.
Draven let it go. He didn’t want an answer he couldn’t accept-one that couldn’t be fixed and would ruin the mood.
If winning her heart took all his effort, then getting her to willingly marry him would take time
as well.
“I’m a little thirsty,” Ayla said.
Draven wrapped an arm around her back and pressed gently. She shifted from kneeling to sitting right on his waist, fitting against him perfectly. She felt something immediately. So that was his “inconvenient reason”? Before she could speak, his hand was already at the back of her
neck.
She couldn’t resist at all. Pulled forward, she crashed into him and was trapped in his arms. His kiss was airtight-dominant, forceful, and dangerously tempting.

When he finally let her go, Ayla’s cheeks were flushed, her eyes hazy.
The sight only tempted Draven to tease her more.

But he had already stood up. Aside from his wrinkled shirt, he still carried that cool, refined air.
He bent slightly, took her hand, and pulled her against his chest.
Still breathless, Ayla shot him a glare. His kisses were getting shameless-not quick anymore, more like drawn-out teasing.
Yet he could stop whenever he wanted.
Ayla sighed, excited and a little scared. Too tired to stand on her own, she leaned into his firm chest, wrapped her arms around his waist, clung to him, and let him lead her to get water.
She was on her period, but she never avoided cold drinks.
She was about to ask for ice water, but he didn’t listen.
He opened a cabinet. Inside were neatly arranged jars filled with ingredients meant to nourish blood and boost energy.
Ayla looked at him in surprise. “Since when do we have all this?”
“I asked Meryll to prepare it. You need to take care of yourself. It’s getting cold. I don’t want your hands and feet freezing.”
Ayla couldn’t help smiling as she looked up at him.
The hem of his black shirt was loose, his collar wide open, and his tie wrinkled and hanging messily. He calmly opened a jar, took out the ingredients, and poured hot water over them, focused as if it truly mattered.
Ayla was almost mesmerized.
He set the cup aside. “Let it cool a bit.”
She nodded. “Okay.”
The bird-of-paradise flowers he’d bought were still on the kitchen island. Draven was about to throw away the old ones that were already dying.
She suddenly said, “Hold me.”

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
