Chapter 591 Inevitable
What Troy craved was unconditional love. Being told that he had never been worthy of love since childhood hit him so hard that his expression changed instantly.
“It’s just mutual harm. Do you think I’m afraid of you?” Ayla stepped closer and grabbed Troy by the collar. Her eyes were bloodshot as she stared straight into his. “I once said you were impressive, because you made me stop believing in marriage. Now you’ve done something else. You’ve proven that being a good person really does put you at a disadvantage. Didn’t you want to be with me? Fine. I’ll give you a chance. Chase me properly. I want to see just how far a bastard like you can go.”
What Troy had done went far beyond emotional damage. It was a complete distortion of humanity. By comparison, Ayla had been far too kind to him. From that day on, she wanted Troy to become her dog, to kneel before her, wagging his tail and begging, stripped of all dignity, forced to live under her shadow.
All he wanted was love. Then she would toy with his feelings and make him live his entire life swinging between hope and despair, because Ayl would never give him what he truly wanted.
“You’d better keep today’s meeting a secret from Draven,” Ayla said.
Troy snapped out of her sudden outburst and broke into a delighted smile. He liked this unfamiliar version of Ayla. “Why? You don’t want Draven to know? Are you planning to lie to him forever?”
“You think I’m as shameless as you? Draven and have an agreement. Anything related to you, I’ll tell him myself. Even this scheme of yours, I’ll be the one to tell him,” Ayla said coldly.
At least for now, Ayla did not want Draven to take this blow. She and Draven had planned to go home that night and cook a meat fondue together. She wanted them to finish the meal happily first. She could tell him afterward.
“You two have an agreement?” Troy’s jealousy exploded. His eyes turned red. “Whatever agreement you have, didn’t I smash it piece by piece already?”
Ayla stared at him with bloodshot eyes for two seconds, shoved him away, grabbed her bag. and walked out.
As soon as she got into her car, Ayla floored the gas pedal and drove straight to the river. She stopped, slammed her fist against the steering wheel, and completely broke down. She covered her face with both hands and sobbed uncontrollably.
The reality she could no longer avoid came crashing down one after another.
A breakup. Was she really going to break up with Draven?
Could Troy have been lying on purpose?
Could everything that just happened have been nightmare?
She really was going to break up with Draven.
Her heart twisted with pain, and her tears poured out uncontrollably.
Ayla desperately wanted to go to Draven, to see him, to hold him, to press her hands against his warm skin, to breathe in the familiar scent that made her feel safe.
But she could not control her emotions at all. She could only force herself to endure it.
During that time, she even had one or two work matters to deal with. The meetings were supposed to be voice calls, but she could only type through blurred vision issuing instructions in text. Her hands were shaking so badly she almost mistyped several times.
She did not know how long she cried or how long her heart ached before Draven’s message finally came. “I have to go on a last-minute business trip. How about we eat out tonight instead? The city I’m going to has an art exhibition going on. One of the artists you said you really liked will be showing work there. I can bring something back for you.”
Troy had behaved himself, at least for now. He had slipped past Draven’s watchful eye and kept him from finding out early. Troy was not much inferior to Draven, and that was exactly why he could act so recklessly.
Reading Draven’s message, Ayla’s tears fell nonstop. The pain made her feel like she was suffocating. She sat there for two full minutes, unable to find the strength to type a reply.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
