Kaleb had never been so annoyed by a woman before. If he could avoid Bria, he absolutely would.
Without saying a word, he walked past her and went straight to the nursery. Then he shut the door behind him.
The nursery was spacious and quiet.
Troy was sitting on the couch. He wore a neat, well-fitted suit, but it could not hide the tired look on his face. Even in this rough state, the pride and arrogance around him were clear. He carried himself like someone who looked down on everyone else.
Kaleb walked over. Without any warning, he swung his fist. The punch landed hard.
Kaleb pointed at him, his face cold and fearless. "If you ever bully my sister again," he said in a sharp voice, "next time it won't end with just one punch."
Troy knew Kaleb was a brave young man. For someone his age, he was also unusually calm and mature.
But if Troy wanted to, he could have his bodyguards hold Kaleb down with a wave of his hand. He would not even need to fight Kaleb to crush his spirit.
Still, Kaleb was someone Ayla trusted very much.
Troy held back the cold fury in his eyes. He slowly turned his face back and rubbed the sore corner of his mouth. Then he gave a short, mocking laugh. "Between me and Draven," he asked, "who do you hate more?"
Kaleb didn't even pause. "You're both awful," he said. "But if I have to choose, it's definitely you."
Troy raised his eyebrow slightly. "And next time," he asked calmly, "how do you plan to protect your sister?"
Kaleb stared straight at him. "If it comes down to it," he said flatly, "one life for one life. I'm fine dying together."
Troy's lips curved faintly. No wonder they were siblings. They both had the same sharp, cold edge.
Kaleb had already made his threat clear, but Troy had no reason to promise him anything. Ayla had shut him out completely. Why would he care what Kaleb thought? Still, Troy wasn't mad. His quiet, steady presence alone filled the room with pressure. Letting Kaleb land that punch was enough. At least Ayla might feel a little less angry after hearing about it.
Kaleb had vented his anger. He turned and prepared to leave.
At that moment, the door opened. Bria had asked the housekeeper to unlock it. The moment she stepped inside, she saw Kaleb's clenched fist and the bruise forming at the corner of Troy's mouth.
Her eyes widened in shock and fury. She rushed forward. "How dare you hit my brother?"
Andrew came in right behind her. The moment he heard that, his heart nearly stopped.
Holy shit! Troy was in charge of the Winston Group. Outside, Andrew might act confident and bold. But in front of Troy, he became quiet and cautious, like a frightened little bird.
Bria chased him all the way to the road outside the estate. The blast of exhaust from the car hit her straight in the face. Her anger exploded.
No one had ever treated her like that.
No one—except that lunatic Kaleb.
"What a jerk! What gives him the right to do this to me?" Bria snapped. "The only reason he was even allowed into the estate is because of Ayla. What's he so proud of?" She let out a harsh laugh. "Running a tiny game company. I could buy two or three companies like his without even blinking. Any company I've gifted my niece and nephew is worth more than his whole business. And he dares to look down on me!"
To Bria, Ayla and Kaleb were two completely different things.
If she liked someone, she would spoil them without limit. If she disliked someone, she would crush them without mercy.
"I wouldn't even pick a guy like him if I were looking for a boy toy," Bria continued angrily. "And he dares to act like he's above me!" When Bria was angry, she could insult someone until they sounded completely worthless.
But in her mind, she was simply telling the truth. She had dated plenty of handsome boy toys before, charming celebrities with promising careers. Even they eventually bored her. And Kaleb? Who did he think he was? Just a kid, and he dared to cross her.
Andrew understood Bria well. He knew her temper needed to burn itself out first. So he waited until she finished venting before speaking. "Still," Andrew said slowly, "Kaleb has the nerve to punch your brother. And Troy didn't go after him afterward. That tells me something; Kaleb is hard to deal with."

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
