Chapter 71 Invitation
James said, “We still have a game later. You coming with us or not?”
Draven said, “You go ahead.” He almost never gave answers.
James froze for a beat, then grinned like he knew gossip and dragged Herman toward the car.

James walked ahead, then spun back, grabbed Will by the arm, and snapped, “Try using your eyes for
once.”
Will stared at him.
Hey, not everyone’s a shipper like you.
Well, pity you matched the wrong people.
Ayla watched all of it without understanding and looked at Draven.
Draven said, “Get in first.”
Ayla got into the passenger seat of Draven’s Bentley. The driver followed Herman’s car.
After a moment, Draven said, “Stop.”
The Bentley pulled over. Ayla looked at him through the mirror.
Draven said, “Get out.”
Ayla stepped out and walked to his window when he rolled it down.
She waited, confused. She had no idea what Draven was trying to do.
Draven said, “Your clothes were damaged during work hours. The company will cover it. Go buy new ones.” He handed her a black platinum card.
“Six ones. That’s the code.”
It was just one dress. She would not take Draven’s money. Besides, he helped her get back at Bria.
Ayla almost refused, but his steady stare hit her like a wall, so she took the card.
“Thank you, Mr. Storm.” Then she went to the mall.
She walked a few steps, then turned back. “Mr. Storm, your jacket.”
Draven said, “It is dirty.”
Ayla said nothing.
He’s a clean freak.

Ayla said nothing and left quickly. She worried about keeping him waiting, but then she remembered James saying they had plans. Draven would not stay here for her.
She pressed the card in her hand. It felt cold, yet a little hot at the same time.
She must keep this card close so she could give it back to Draven next time they met.
She slowed down. She bought a white ankle-length dress with his card. Then she bought a black mid- length coat with her own money and tied the belt.
She changed into white flat sneakers and folded Draven’s jacket in the bag to take for dry cleaning.
Ayla walked out of the mall. Her ride was a minute away.
A car horn beeped behind her. She turned and froze.
Draven’s Bentley sat at the curb.
Ayla was surprised.
He had waited.
He had not left. She had been inside twenty minutes, and he stayed there the entire time.
I made him wait!
Ayla felt her stomach drop.
She hurried over. The driver lowered the window. “Get in.”
Ayla glanced back. Draven’s face was calm, relaxed, and nothing like the cold CEO at the charity event.
He showed not a hint of impatience.
Draven looked at her. “Are you getting in?”
Ayla’s phone rang. The rideshare driver called.
“Give me a moment.” She handled the call quickly and got inside. “Mr. Storm, I am sorry. I thought you would not wait, so I called a car. That is why I took longer.”
Draven said, “Did I say I would not wait?”
Ayla was quiet.
For the last three years, Troy never stayed for her. She was used to no one waiting for her, so the moment she finished buying her clothes, she called a ride.
Ayla said, “No. I did not think of it.”
Draven said. “Is that so?”

Ayla realized he wanted her to admit she used him. “I thought of it.”
Draven leaned back while the car moved.

Ayla looked out the window. She knew he would punish her. She expected something she might not be able to handle.
Yet she felt strangely calm, like fear could not reach her.
She had no idea why she felt like that. It was as if the pessimistic side of her was taken over by pure optimism. It was absurd.
Draven was sitting behind Ayla. He could see her tensed up.
Draven looked at her jaw tightening. He wanted to ignore it, but he couldn’t. “You are scared?”
Ayla said, “Yes.”
Draven said, “Then do not do it again.”
Ayla said, “I will not use you again, Mr. Storm.”
Draven stared at her.
She sounded too steady. She did not look afraid at all.
He closed his mouth and said nothing.
They arrived at a private club for the second half of the night. People were already inside playing poker.
James pointed at them. “So that is why you took Ayla. You went to buy clothes with her.”

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
