Kaleb even hated himself. He knew Bria had serious issues, yet he was still on the verge of falling into her trap all over again.
Those cruel, honest words had come straight from Bria herself, and yet he was still making excuses for her, even willing to give her another chance. He knew he was no match for her at all.
Back then, Kaleb was stuck in a constant push and pull, torn inside. He wanted a quick resolution, so when Bria said she wanted to come to his birthday, he still refused.
At that moment, he thought he'd made the right decision.
He rejected her so decisively, thinking she wouldn't come looking for him again.
But watching her walk away, all he felt was pain.
Getting close to Bria meant getting close to pain, but staying away from her meant losing any chance at happiness. His life felt like it was being torn apart.
By the time his birthday came, Kaleb wasn't in the mood to celebrate. Emmett didn't ask too many questions, but he quietly paid attention to how Kaleb was doing. Seeing he was down, he invited a few people over to liven things up so the birthday wouldn't feel so empty.
Kaleb had already turned down Bria's offer to celebrate with him, and he hadn't planned to celebrate at all. Everything had been arranged by Emmett.
Then, on his birthday, Bria's bodyguards showed up out of nowhere and wrecked the party Emmett had carefully put together.
Compared to Emmett and the others, who were shocked and furious, Kaleb actually felt happy.
He really was happy.
Because in that moment, Kaleb felt like he finally understood something. Bria wasn't just trying to get revenge. If she really wanted to hurt him, she had countless ways to do it. Destroying a birthday party was almost childish.
At that moment, Kaleb made up his mind. When Bria showed up, he was going to ask her everything.
As long as she said one more time that she had feelings for him, he was willing to gather his courage and take a step forward.
Kaleb had always lived within a safe, stable routine. Deciding to give Bria a chance meant stepping willingly into chaos. That wasn't easy for him.
But that day, Bria never came.
She disappeared without warning.
It was only when Kaleb went to Ayla's place that he found out Bria had gone abroad.
Could it really be that after causing that mess, she'd just vented her anger and left?

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
