Tyler turned his face and walked away. Edgar felt like he had been slapped hard across the face. It burned with pain. As a man, no one could stand this kind of shame. Why does my father look down on me? What have I done so badly? I have clearly been doing very well! This was so unfair!
"Just eat first," Hayley didn't say anything else, and tried to calm everyone down so they could eat. Even after a fight, life still had to go on.
After dinner, Hayley said a few comforting words, then Halle went upstairs with Edgar.
As soon as they entered their room, Halle didn't even get a chance to look around before Edgar's angry voice exploded beside her. "Halle, are you happy now? Why did you bring up my job in front of my dad?! Did you just want to embarrass me?! Do you even want to marry me, or are you just here to torture me? You saw my dad put me down like I'm nothing. Does that satisfy you?"
What Edgar wanted was for Halle to stand up for him, to speak for him, not to question him in front of his father.
He had moved back home today, hoping for a good atmosphere, but Halle was only making things worse for him.
Halle had seen a lot in life, so Edgar's sudden outburst didn't surprise her. He was just being sensitive, unable to face his own mistakes, getting angry out of shame.
What was interesting was that Edgar was blaming her so naturally, as if she owed him something.
When something went wrong, he only knew how to blame others and never reflected on himself. To put it bluntly, if Halle were hiring an assistant for herself, she wouldn't hire someone like Edgar.
He had been working for years, yet when problems came up, he couldn't talk things through or fix them. He only knew how to lose his temper. He was completely driven by his emotions. Edgar was really getting worse instead of better.
Halle didn't say anything. Her gaze remained calm and steady. Even though Edgar was angry, she showed no reaction at all. Edgar couldn't accept it. Didn't we agree that she would start thinking about my feelings more? I've already become this angry—why isn't she comforting me or backing down?!
His anger kept building. "Why aren't you talking? Say something!" he shouted.
"What do you want me to say?" Halle asked.
"Was this on purpose?" Edgar snapped.
"If I say I was just worried about you, would you believe me?" Halle replied.
Edgar said angrily, "Is that supposed to be concern? No, you just want to laugh at me! You wanted me to look bad in front of my dad, didn't you?"
Halle looked at him and said, "See? I told the truth, and you still don't believe me. Edgar, stop pretending. You don't actually want to hear what I really think or have a real talk. You just want to dump your emotions on me and put all your frustration on me. Do you know what kind of people do that? Losers do that."

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
