Divorce me I'm done serving you (Ayla) novel Chapter 880

His tone was thick with mockery.

Halle understood at once. Edgar had set her up.

With the elders present, she didn’t want to argue. She went to see Dakota first and carefully asked about her condition.

The episode had been dangerous. Pulling through was already a blessing. The doctor’s words were tactful, but the meaning was clear. At her age, they should let her recover peacefully, keep her happy, and be mentally prepared.

Halle knew Dakota wouldn’t pass right now. It would happen at some unknown point in the future. Birth, aging, sickness, and death were all part of ordinary human fate. Still, looking at the old woman’s face, Halle felt a genuine ache in her chest. She stayed and kept her company for a while.

Edgar, however, only thought Halle was good at putting on an act. His grandmother was old. Old people getting sick was normal. It wasn’t as if Halle had been especially close to her before. Putting on this grief now—wasn’t it just for his parents to see?

Edgar grew increasingly irritated. His expression looked awful.

He wanted to shout at her to stop pretending.

Halle stayed a little longer. Then, it was nearly time.

Maybe it was the old woman’s illness, that aged, irreversible face, that suddenly made Halle understand something. Everyone died. The time given to each person was limited. So, one should enjoy the life in front of them.

Halle had always been reluctant to let go of the past, still clinging to the beauty she remembered, desperate to keep it.

But in truth, it had ended long, long ago. Holding on this far hadn’t brought back the love and warmth from before. It had only left wreckage—and made everything uglier.

Halle forgave Edgar. What they had once shared had been good, but fundamentally, they were no longer walking the same path. Making it this far had already been difficult enough.

Halle decided to end it. There was no hatred, no grievance. She simply wanted to be happy and move forward.

So, Edgar’s little “traps” didn’t make her angry anymore.

You only get hurt by someone's opinion when you still care. Halle didn’t care now. No matter what he did now, it no longer felt like it had anything to do with her.

Halle said formally, “Mr. and Mrs. Bowman, may I treat you both to dinner tomorrow night?”

Edgar frowned. “Why the sudden dinner?”

Halle looked at Edgar. “This business trip was a little long. I brought back some gifts. I’ll give them to Mr. and Mrs. Bowman during dinner.”

Then, she invited Edgar. “You can come, too.”

Edgar said nothing. He only felt that Halle was different. Her attitude was calm and gentle, without the sharpness he usually sensed from her.

Edgar stayed silent. He walked Halle out, and when they reached the hospital entrance, Halle said, “No need to see me off.”
