Divorce me I'm done serving you (Ayla) novel Chapter 889

Even though Halle had never been close to Benjamin—she only saw him once a year—his sudden death still left her mind completely blank.

But strangely, she didn't feel like crying. She didn't even know what she was supposed to feel.

After all, Benjamin was her biological father. If she didn't cry, it would make her seem cold and heartless.

But she really couldn't cry. There just wasn't much emotion there.

When Halle got the call about Benjamin's death, she reacted as if she had received a work assignment. Calm and composed, she rushed to the hospital to see him one last time.

Benjamin's current wife was already his third. He also had three other children. They were all in the room, crying their hearts out. Only Halle stood there quietly, watching the scene with a calm face.

The last time she saw Benjamin was on New Year's Day. After that, she only called him a few times.

She remembered that day clearly. It had been nothing special. They weren't close, so there was nothing warm to say. Watching him get along so well with his other kids made her feel uncomfortable. All she could think about was how to leave as soon as possible.

She had left early that day. From start to finish, they had only spent about an hour together.

Back then, Halle never imagined that would be the last time she would ever see him.

Now, he lay in the morgue, covered with a white sheet.

Halle lifted the sheet and looked at his face one last time before covering him again.

At a time like this, Benjamin's wife and children were completely unreliable.

They didn't know what to do. Some were probably already thinking about how to divide the inheritance.

Halle had known these people for years. She understood exactly what they were like. So, when she first heard about Benjamin's sudden death, her mind went blank for a moment—but right after that, she contacted his trusted assistant and brought in a lawyer. She handled all of this on her way to the hospital.

These fools had been competing with her since they were kids, but none of them could ever beat her. Now that Benjamin was gone, someone had to take charge of the family. And there was no better choice than Halle.

She also thought that maybe the reason she couldn't cry was because she was too busy—busy stabilizing everything and handling Benjamin's funeral. She didn't have time to feel, and she couldn't allow herself to.

A few relatives tried to cause trouble, but Halle shut them down quickly. Now that Benjamin was gone, everyone had to follow her lead.

From the day Benjamin died to the day he was cremated, Halle was constantly fighting and working. She looked strong and showed her ability when things got hard.

She thought she could get through all of this with logic and control. But then something changed.

On the day Benjamin was about to be buried, her mother, Amelia Kinsman, arrived.

Halle covered her face.

Amelia pulled her into a hug. Halle buried her face in Amelia's shoulder and broke down, crying hard.

In that moment, she realized something. In this world, there were only two people who were truly related to her by blood—Benjamin and Amelia. And now, she had lost one of them forever.

...

Halle didn't check James's messages until a week after Benjamin's funeral.

At first, James had wanted to help her handle everything. But she had firmly refused. She wanted to face it alone.

She felt that if she relied on James, she would fall apart. Once that last thread holding her together snapped, she wouldn't be able to keep going.

So, she chose to stand on her own.

And it worked.

Looking back, Halle had handled everything perfectly. She successfully secured the will, kept the troublemakers under control, arranged Benjamin's funeral, and received all the guests. Everything had been done in an orderly and flawless way.
