Quiet moments were when he felt the most at ease.
So, he just sat on the bedroom couch and watched Blake get ready for the day.
First, she washed her face and did her makeup. Most of her clothes were matching sets, so she didn't have to waste time picking out outfits. She mostly wore solid-color suits. She had them in black, white, gray, blue, and purple.
She usually added a bright silk scarf to her suits for a pop of color.
On colder days, she would throw on a designer trench coat.
Blake loved collecting jewelry. She had all kinds of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and watches.
Today, she went with a two-tone Rolex, a gray suit, and a blue scarf.
She tucked the scarf into her collar to make it look like a blue undershirt. It looked clean and stylish.
Next, she put on her Chanel earrings and a matching necklace.
She had dyed her hair coffee-brown and usually wore it loose in soft waves or tied back.
Since it was a little chilly today, she grabbed a black trench coat to go with the gray suit and left her hair down.
Finally, she sprayed on some perfume.
And just like that, Herman saw a glowing Blake Pope.
He was amazed by the transformation.
Some people looked drained and exhausted when they were weak, but Blake was different. She had been pushing herself a little too hard lately, but even if her body was worn out, her energy remained sharp.
After a good night's sleep, her makeup and outfit easily made her look like she was at her peak.
When she finished and turned around, Herman was still in his pajamas.
Blake asked him a question. "Aren't you in a rush?"
Herman explained his plan. "I'll go home and get ready later. Then I'll move my stuff over here."
She frowned automatically, but then she remembered the one-month trial. His request actually made sense.
She warned him. "You're taking it all back when this is over, so don't bring too much."
Herman listened to her harsh words and thought, It is only day one and she is already acting like this will fail. Brutal.
But out loud, he could only agreed. "Okay."
Blake didn't care much about breakfast, either.
She grabbed a pre-made sandwich from the fridge and tossed it into the microwave.
Then, she made herself a cup of coffee.
Herman watched her grab ice cubes from the freezer.
She drank iced coffee at home, and she usually had two more cups once she got to the office. Drinking that much cold coffee every day definitely explained her constant stomach problems.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
