After kicking out a devastated James-whose matchmaking dreams had officially died-Will wandered back into the private room.
Draven was on the phone, sounding unusually calm. Judging by the tone, he was talking to Martin.
Hah. James didn’t believe it?
If Draven actually cared about Ayla, the call right now would be to Ayla, not her ex-husband’s grandfather. And he definitely wasn’t telling the old man to keep Troy in check.
If there was no love, there was no love.
Some things simply don’t change.
Ayla drove straight toward Kaleb’s company-her first time going there.
Kaleb sat in the passenger seat, giving her sideways looks.
First disdain, then cold snorts, then disdain again.
Right before they got out, he asked, “Ayla, what was that performance with Juliet supposed to be?”
“Should I have stood on her side and scolded you? Would you be happier?”
Kaleb was taken aback.
Ayla parked, stepped out, and turned to Emmett.
“Take me to your office. I want to see the system first.”
Kaleb barely knew her, didn’t care about her so-called transformation, and wasn’t about to drag her around.
Except… he was curious what exactly happened between her and Troy.
So, he kept his face cold and stayed silent.
Emmett, who practically worshiped Ayla, instantly led the way.
Ayla first went to the tech department, checked the logs, looked through the breach, the gaps, and the overall structural problem of the system. The breach was easy. The firewall needed rebuilding. The attack could be handled in a day, and the firewall would take a few more.
“One week-everything will be stable again.”
Emmett blinked. “One week? Ayla, seriously?”

The tech team stared at her like she was doing stand-up comedy. “Ayla, right? You know how big the breach is? Our entire firewall is gone. Even with full-team overtime, a month isn’t enough.”
Emmett thought Ayla was merely curious at first.
He absolutely did not expect her to actually dive into the tech.
He also wasn’t going to let people mock her.
“You guys go work.”
Emmett brought Ayla to Kaleb’s office.
Kaleb’s desk was a disaster. Back at the office, he finally cooled down.
He had no choice but to face the game dev mess.
Emmett pulled out a chair, letting Ayla sit.
Kaleb sneered at Emmett’s fawning and then looked at Ayla. “You’re still here?”
She finally took the time to look at him properly.
“You were curious, weren’t you?”
Kaleb said, “Say it if you want. I don’t care.”
“I’m divorcing Troy. We’ll get the papers soon.”
Kaleb’s grip tightened around the mouse. His eyes, now serious, locked onto hers.
“Why did he come after me?”
“I work at Storm Group. Their CEO is Draven-Troy’s half-brother. Troy wanted me to resign. I refused. So he came for you, to force me. So… this time, you really got dragged down because of me.”
Ayla assumed Kaleb would tear her apart for it.
Something like “Then why don’t you quit?”
But surprisingly-
Kaleb’s expression hardened cold as steel. “You absolutely cannot quit. If you resign, don’t come see me ever again.”
“… You’re not blaming me?”
No one hated Troy more than Kaleb.
“Why should his whims dictate your life? Who does he think he is, a king? You not resigning is not wrong. If he can’t handle that, he can go die.

“He hit me today. That alone says he’s a twisted, rotten bastard”
He added, “And anything that pisses Troy off-you should do it. Do it to the end
Ayla didn’t say anything for a moment.
“You’re laughing at what?”
… You telling him to die if he can’t deal with it… honestly makes sense.
It was Kaleb’s turn to stay silent.

Ayla stood, walked to him, and looked down at him. “You actually backed me up today. I’ll listen. I’ll do everything that makes him unhappy.”
“… I didn’t back you up. I just can’t stand Troy.”
“Either way, we agree.”

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
