‘Are those crocodile tears, or is she truly being sincere?‘ Teresa wondered. All she knew was that, no matter what, Yalena shouldn’t have an easy time.

Eason had already left the hospital and got into his car. He arrived at a DNA testing center, his expression grim and determined.

“Mr. Robert, I had a test done at your center before. This time, I want you to personally do this DNA test for me. I’m not leaving, not even for a second, until I get the results,” Eason said firmly.

William replied, “Mr. Kelly, the results will take at least ten hours or so. Why don’t you go home and rest? Don’t worry, I’ll do the test myself, and as soon as the results are ready, I’ll call you right away.”

“No need. I’ll wait here in person, no matter how long it takes,” Eason insisted. Eason sat down. Right now, all he wanted was to know if Yalena was his daughter.

In the hospital, the red light outside the operating room went off. Lucas was no longer in immediate danger and had been transferred to the intensive care unit for close monitoring.

Yalena pushed herself up, still a bit shaky on her legs. “That’s great. I’m going to see Lucas-”

Teresa grabbed Yalena’s arm. “Just go. Lucas barely survived. He’s suffered enough because of you. Please, don’t ever show up in front of him again.”

“I’ll protect him from now on. I won’t let him get hurt ever again. I’m going to see Lucas,” Yalena insisted. She shook off Teresa’s grip and marched straight to the ward.

Even after having so much blood drawn, she couldn’t feel any pain at all. She just sat at Lucas’s bedside, holding his hand.

“Lucas, open your eyes and look at me, okay? I’m right here,” Yalena whispered, her voice trembling with hope. Her hand, crusted with dried blood, gently caressed Lucas’s cheek.

Teresa walked in and said, “I’m saying this one more time. Just leave, will you? If Lucas wakes up and sees you, he might just faint again.”

Yalena shook her head. “I’m not leaving. I have to protect Lucas. I swear, I won’t let him get hurt ever again. As long as Lucas is okay, I’ll let you off the hook.”

“That’s funny. Am I supposed to thank you for letting me off? Just wait. You’re definitely going to have to take legal responsibility this time,” Teresa snapped.

‘She hurt Lucas this badly and still acts like this. And now I’m supposed to thank her for her so–called kindness?‘ she thought, feeling even more exasperated.
