When Roxy laid eyes on Sylvia, her expression instantly frosted over.
Sylvia was her sworn enemy. Both of them were considered one of the four most beautiful women in Javonbury, and their companies’ ventures overlapped so much that they were locked in cutthroat competition the whole time. At one point, it had practically been a fight to the death.
In addition to that, their personalities clashed terribly. Sparks flew every time they met.
To make matters even worse, Sylvia’s villa was right next door. She and Roxy were constantly bumping into each other, and every encounter deepened the hostility between them.
“Is this your first love, Roxy, the one you’ve been pining for all along? He’s quite the looker. You’ve got good taste, Roxy.”
Smiling faintly, Sylvia winked at Calvin. That single look from her set his body on fire. She was simply far too alluring.
Roxy was the typical cold and unapproachable beauty, while Sylvia had a fiery charm that stirred up a man’s desire.
Calvin wondered if Sylvia had taken a liking to him as well. Even though he looked calm on the outside, he was all hot and bothered on the inside.
The thought of him having both stunning women wrapped around his finger made him gulp. He had indeed made the right choice by returning to the country.
Forcing down her anger, Roxy questioned, “Sylvia, what are you doing here?”
“Oh. I said why earlier, didn’t I? I came to give Ashton a ride to the hospital. Madam Lowe isn’t feeling well, and I’m so worried about her. I’ve reached out to the best doctor at Paramount Hospital and arranged a VIP hospital room as well.
“You don’t need to be concerned about Madam Lowe’s health, Roxy. I’ll handle everything.”
Sylvia’s slender waist swayed as she sashayed her way over to Ashton. Reining in her nervousness, she asked sweetly, “Shall we head over to the hospital to check on Madam Lowe together, Ashton?”
Ashton thought for a moment before nodding. He got into the passenger seat of Sylvia’s car without sparing Roxy so much as a glance.
“Ashton! Get out of that car!” Roxy snarled through gritted teeth, feeling extremely displeased.
Ashton knew full well that she and Sylvia were mortal rivals! Why did he still get into her car? In the past, he’d always ignored Sylvia when she tried to hit on him.
“We’ve already signed the divorce papers. What right do you have to order me out of the car?” Ashton queried flatly.
“I…” Roxy froze and was left speechless.
He was right. They’d already begun their divorce proceedings. What right did she have to stop him from getting into any car he wanted?
“You two are getting a divorce?” Sylvia exclaimed.
Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest when she heard that Roxy and Ashton had signed their divorce papers. She wasn’t prepared to hear such glorious news!
At last, she had the chance she’d been waiting for. If not for the fact that she wasn’t alone right now, she would’ve wept from joy.
Sylvia had waited far too long for this day to come. She thought she’d never get this opportunity. Finally, the foolish Roxy had made an irreversible mistake!
“So what if we are?” Roxy retorted.
She didn’t understand why Sylvia looked so thrilled. Did she have genuine feelings for Ashton?
Roxy immediately thought that was impossible. After all, Sylvia was one of the four most beautiful women in Javonbury, just like her. Why would she be interested in someone like Ashton, who had nothing to his name?
“Oh, it’s nothing. Congratulations, Roxy! You’d better not regret it. You don’t love Ashton, but I do!” Sylvia declared.
Although she was doing her best to keep her composure, she was leaping for joy on the inside. She couldn’t believe how stupid Roxy was. Did she really give up on Ashton for her first love? She truly knew nothing about Ashton, even though he’d been her husband!
Sylvia gave Calvin one last glance before sliding into the driver’s seat of her Lamborghini. She gazed at Ashton with tender eyes. “Let’s go, Ashton.”
She stepped on the accelerator, and the Lamborghini shot forward.
Roxy had an uncomfortable feeling in her chest. She found that ever since Ashton signed the divorce agreement, he no longer bothered to even look her in the eye. For some reason, his distant attitude toward her now made her heart twinge in pain.
Could it be that she was wrong to divorce him?
That was impossible. Calvin was the man she loved.
Forcing away these thoughts, Roxy drove her and Calvin to the hospital. She could only rest easy once she confirmed that Irene was alright.
“I haven’t figured that out yet.”
“Why don’t you stay at my place? I live alone.”
“That wouldn’t be appropriate,” Ashton said, declining her offer.
“Ashton, have you forgotten that you saved my life?” Sylvia’s voice was somber as she said, “If you hadn’t saved me back then, I would probably be forced to sell myself at some brothel right now. I wouldn’t be living the life I have now…”
She recalled that stormy night when she’d been locked up in a holding cell by a human trafficking organization. They were about to ship her abroad, and they’d even seared a brand into her skin, marking her as their property. She’d been consumed by despair.
It was Ashton who rescued her.
Sylvia would never forget that moment when he saved her. He’d even given her a sum of money, enabling her to start her life anew.
She had long since fallen deeply in love with Ashton. But once she found out he was married, all she could do was linger in his vicinity without ever confessing her feelings for him.
Ashton, on the other hand, acted as if he’d forgotten her, keeping her completely at arm’s length.
“My villa is right next to the Sloan residence, Ashton. That makes it easy for you to visit Celia. And if someone mistreats her, you’ll be able to notice it right away!” Sylvia declared. “Besides, don’t you want to get even with Roxy? We can pretend to be in a relationship to drive her mad!”
Her tone almost sounded like she was begging him.
“Let me think about it,” Ashton said.
He didn’t agree to it right away. But if he did move into Sylvia’s place, it made it easier for him to look out for Celia. Celia was the most important person to him, after all.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital. Ashton and Sylvia got out of the car, and soon after that, Roxy and Calvin pulled up as well.
“Let’s go inside, Ashton. Madam Lowe is going to be alright,” Sylvia said. She summoned her courage and slipped her hand around Ashton’s arm, her heart pounding wildly. Then, she shot Roxy a provocative look.
“Ashton and I can take care of Madam Lowe, Roxy. I’m sure you’re a very busy woman, so you can head back now.”
