Chapter 598
Lawrence muttered under his breath, “He’s a sly fox. There’s no way he’s truly hurt. But those from the Dominion Vanguard are to be taken for everything they’ve got. Thank goodness Ashton joined the Legion. Anyone facing off against an opponent like him would suffer!”
“Grandpa, are you saying that Ashton is just faking it?” Kayla swallowed hard.
“Indeed, he is. You mustn’t let yourself be fooled by that brat, Kayla. He’s basically a world–class actor at this rate. You need to be on your guard,” Lawrence warned.
“Huh?”
Kayla’s cheeks flushed when she recalled how she was supposed to spend a few nights with Ashton. Her heart thumped, and she couldn’t meet Lawrence’s gaze.
She simply mumbled, “There’s no way he can fool me!”
Meanwhile, Flint’s gaze sharpened, and his expression frosted over. A strong sense of unease washed over him. If Ashton could show up at the arena, it meant that the Shadow Blade had failed in its mission.
But that didn’t make sense. There was no way Ashton could’ve escaped from the ambush and arrived in half an hour–not unless he was a semi–divine realm expert.
“Sir, I can’t get in touch with any of the people from the Shadow Blade,” Irina quietly reported, feeling just as stunned.
Flint’s eyes glimmered with cold hostility. His fists clenched. He exchanged a glance with Maxwell before shaking his head. “It doesn’t matter. Ashton might’ve gotten lucky there, but he’s heavily injured now. He’s even less of a match for Clay now.
“It’s even better to let him die in the fight. That way, we can know for sure that he will never be a threat to us again!”
Irina nodded lightly, but she could clearly sense that Flint was feeling unsettled as well. Evidently, he must’ve noticed something.
Ashton seemed to be full of surprises.
Irina smirked, feeling her interest in Ashton grow stronger.
“How could this happen? He didn’t run away?” Damian fumed, but he soon began cackling viciously again.
“It’s just as well. A gravely injured Ashton can’t possibly leave the arena alive. Clay will humiliate him thoroughly. I can’t wait to see the match. Just you wait, Eunice. You’ll soon see how Ashton gets ripped into shreds!”
Eunice completely ignored Damian and stared fixedly at Ashton. From the moment he stepped onto that stage, she almost mistook him for the Grim Reaper. Their silhouettes seemed to overlap perfectly.
She was determined to find out, once and for all, whether Ashton was the Grim Reaper.
Eunice took a deep breath. Her entire focus was now on Ashton and no one else.
“Ashton came, Mom! I told you he’s not the kind of person you say he is. He’s ten thousand times better than Connor!” Wanda looked proud.
Julia raised her brows.
“It would’ve been better if he hadn’t come at all! Only a fool would knowingly walk right into a death trap. When he dies at Clay’s hands, his name will be shamed for all eternity. Wanda, a man this stupid isn’t worthy of you. You should drop this foolish hope
at once.”
“You’re just biased, Mom!“Wanda retorted in displeasure. “I’ll see what you have to say when Ashton defeats Clay!”

“There’s no way he can defeat Clay. That’s absolutely impossible.”
“Just wait and see, Mom.”
Paying no further attention to Julia, Wanda focused on the betting pool and continued to bet all of her money on Ashton
Over at the Dominion Vanguard’s side, Maxwell’s face had darkened. Ashton showing up at the arena wasn’t part of his plan, and he hated the feeling he got when something didn’t go the way he planned–the feeling of not having control over everything.
