Chapter 976
Ashton was keenly aware that he was locked in a life-and-death struggle with the consciousness of Lord Ashdrake deep inside his soul.
He had to disregard all influence and temptation from his opponent. He had to stick to the set plan until he could utterly destroy the other’s consciousness and eliminate the danger for good.
It wasn’t long before Ashton and Miranda emerged from Skybound Club. It was already deep into the night, and a chill breeze lingered around them.
“Do you feel cold?” Ashton asked gently.
Miranda nodded slightly.
Ashton pulled Miranda closer and asked, “Do you feel a bit warmer now?”
“Huh?” Miranda glanced at Ashton’s slightly teasing smile and tried to pull away from his arms, but the more she resisted, the tighter he held her, leaving her no room to break free.
She shot Ashton a sharp glare after multiple failed attempts. He, however, acted as though he hadn’t noticed anything, repeatedly steering the conversation elsewhere.
Miranda eventually gave up and allowed him to keep her in his arms. “Where are we headed to now?”
“Why don’t we go to a hotel since it’s already so late?” Ashton suggested calmly, as if he were discussing a trivial matter.
“Y-You want to go to a hotel?” Miranda asked, her voice going up an octave. She bit down on her lip as her legs tensed up, sensing the burning desire radiating from Ashton.
Miranda whispered, “It’s too soon for that since we’re still on our first date. I think we should just head to a cafe instead.” Ashton nodded with a bit of regret, knowing that pushing too hard would backfire. “Alright.”
They went to a 24-hour cafe, where Miranda finally pulled herself out of Ashton’s arms and sat opposite him. She scrutinized him with keen interest and asked, “Is Madam Lowe aware of your abilities? How come she never mentioned this to me before?”
“I know she might have an idea. I don’t want her worrying about what I’m up to, so I’ll be counting on you to keep her company more in the future, Miranda,” Ashton said earnestly.
He knew he couldn’t remain on Linton Island for long, as he had many tasks ahead of him. He might choose to return to Irene’s side and live a simple life after reaching the top and reclaiming Celia.
“I guess we all underestimated you. Are you just pretending to be weak to catch people off guard? If I had treated you badly or looked down on you, would you have tried to show off just to humiliate me?” Miranda gripped her coffee cup and snorted slightly before letting out a small huff.
“I didn’t have that in mind. I simply didn’t expect fate to bring us together like this!” Ashton’s gaze was intense as he looked at Miranda. She was a stunningly beautiful young woman, and her every expression stirred his desire.
“Do you think you could help me with something if I were to end up dead?” Ashton asked after hesitating briefly
He had little time for romance with Miranda, so everything had to move faster. He would have to seek the next chosen maiden if Miranda refused or try a different approach.
“What do you want me to do?” Miranda was taken aback. She gazed into Ashton’s enigmatic, alluring eyes, her heartbeat quickening involuntarily.
