Chapter 994
As soon as the words left Ashton’s mouth, Brody stiffened. The elite fighters standing behind him did the
same.
Still on his knees, Zeke’s eyes widened as anger flared.
“Ashton, what the hell are you talking about?” he snapped.
“Whether I’m talking nonsense or not, I think your father already knows the answer,” Ashton responded calmly.
“Let me guess. Mr. Zapata, you’ve been holding on and keeping it a secret because you want to clear the path for your son to take over the family. Once you’re gone, he won’t last in that position. With his ability, he’ll be pushed out, and everything you built will end up in someone else’s hands.”
Brody’s eyes widened as he felt the eyes on him, each gaze unreadable. He hadn’t expected Ashton to expose his failing health.
“Mr. Gray, it seems there’s no way to settle this peacefully between us,” Brody said in a low voice as a chilling killing intent radiated from him.
In an instant, the aura of a peak divine–realm expert surged outward. Overwhelming pressure hit the room, and everyone present shuddered. This was the true measure of his strength.
Ashton studied him for a moment, then shook his head.
“What a shame. If you were at your peak condition, I might’ve been interested in fighting you. But you’re already close to death. If you try to fight me now, you won’t last more than a few days,” he said.
“Dad, is he telling the truth? Is your health really failing?” Zeke asked, unable to hide his worry. Brody glanced at him but said nothing.
His father’s silence was as good as admitting it. The strength seemed to drain out of Zeke, leaving him at a loss.
“How is this possible…”
“Mr. Gray, make your move. Show me what the new ruler of Linton Island’s criminal underworld is capable of,” Brody said in a low voice.
“Mr. Zapata, my goal is for all of us to make money and grow stronger,” Ashton said with a smile. “I can extend your life by ten years. I wonder if that’s enough of a bargaining chip to make you yield.”
His words made Brody’s killing intent falter. He looked at Ashton in disbelief, a flicker of hope lighting in his eyes, only to fade just as quickly.
“It’s useless,” he replied. “My heart and kidneys are failing. There’s no cure, and no one can save me. That’s exactly why I can’t hand everything over to you. If I do, my family will be finished.”
“Others may be beyond saving,” Ashton said in a low voice. “But if I say you’ll live ten more years, then you will. Now answer me. Is that enough to make you submit?”
Brody froze at his decisive words. After a moment of silence, he nodded slowly.

“Forget ten years. Even if you can only give me three, I’m willing to follow your orders,” he stated.
What he feared most was what came after his death. His enemies would come for revenge, and the powerful figures under him would turn on each other. Either way, Zeke would die a horrible death.
Hence, Brody needed time to clear every obstacle and find someone powerful enough to stand behind his
“When I say ten years, I mean it,” Ashton said with a smile.
“If you want me to save you, let me be clear. Once I extend your life, I will plant the death mark on both you and your son. From that moment on, your lives are mine. I can end them with a thought. Otherwise, I have no way of knowing whether your loyalty is real. I hope you understand.”
