And then there was the livestream. Damn it, the television was definitely producing sound. She could only pray the bodyguard was smart enough to pull the plug so Kyle wouldn't see anything. Kyle was an excellent man, and Sophie genuinely wanted to hold onto him. An arranged marriage that slowly blossomed into real love was something she was fully willing to try. Besides, he was in no way inferior to Conrad. She had truly developed a sincere desire to make things work with him. Her attempt to retreat just now was a calculated move; if Kyle was a sensible, considerate man, he wouldn't have actually forced his way inside...
Kyle violently shoved Sophie aside and strode directly into the entryway. Sophie crashed heavily into the door handle, letting out a sharp gasp as all the color drained from her face. She trembled from the sheer pain, yet Kyle didn't even spare her a single backward glance. Her heart plummeted straight to the bottom.
The living room was completely empty. No one was there. The sofa was vacant, and the television was switched off. But where had the sound come from? He had distinctly heard Wiona's voice. She had called out to him. She knew he was here.
Still highly suspicious, Kyle prepared to search the inner rooms, but Sophie rushed in and grabbed his arm tightly.
"Enough, Kyle!" she snapped, her face dark as she endured the pain to block his path. "How many times do I have to say it before you believe me? There is no one else in my room. What, do you suspect I am hiding a lover in here?" Sophie's lips curled into a cold, mocking smirk as she stared him down. "Don't make me mistakenly believe you care about me that much. You keep a tight watch on where I live and exactly where I go in the middle of the night. What, have you fallen for me?" She took a half step forward, lightly poking his firm chest with her finger.
Kyle stepped sideways to avoid her touch, a flash of undeniable disgust flickering in his eyes. Though Sophie didn't see it clearly, she finally began to realize that this man was nowhere near as gentle or considerate as he pretended to be. She dug her nails into her palms, finally voicing the agonizing question she couldn't understand.
