Divorced Dazzling and Desired novel Chapter 22

**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 22**

With all the secrets stripped bare, the pretense had lost its value.

Kayla scoffed derisively, her fingers gripping the blanket with a fierce intensity. “Oh, absolutely! They were utterly useless. You should have just slipped away quietly into that ocean, leaving no trace behind. Yet, here you are, still drawing breath. You’re quite the lucky one, aren’t you, Renee?”

Three million dollars.

A staggering sum she had spent—three million—just to rid herself of Renee.

And now, it all felt wasted.

“You make a valid point. Seraph Island is indeed engulfed by water on all sides. Had I truly perished out there, the fish would have feasted on my remains, and you would have gotten precisely what you desired,” Renee replied, her voice steady, almost mocking.

With a deliberate motion, Renee picked up a fruit knife, slicing through an apple with precision. She presented a neatly cut piece to Kayla, her expression unreadable.

“I extended a single chance to you. The next time you attempt to take my life, it won’t be so straightforward,” she warned, her eyes narrowing slightly.

Kayla, observing Renee’s calm demeanor as she continued to slice the fruit, felt a surge of smug satisfaction wash over her. She popped the apple slice into her mouth, savoring the moment. “Renee, I may not have succeeded this time, but there’s always a next time waiting. But here’s a thought—maybe you don’t even need to die. If you’re willing to divorce Adam, I swear I’ll leave you in peace.”

As she spoke, Kayla took another bite of the apple, blissfully unaware of the peril lurking just beneath the surface.

Renee remained silent, methodically placing the remaining fruit onto a pristine plate. She retrieved a few tissues, carefully wiping her fingers and the cold, gleaming blade of the knife.

Each movement was calculated and graceful, yet beneath that elegance lay an unsettling stillness.

A sense of unease crept over Kayla.

In an instant, Renee’s expression shifted, her gaze turning icy and unyielding.

Their eyes locked, and without warning, the knife was directed straight at Kayla.

“Ahh! Mmph!”

Kayla’s scream was abruptly muffled as Renee swiftly covered her mouth with a napkin, silencing her cries in an instant.

The sharp edge of the knife pressed against Kayla’s neck, its coldness a stark reminder of the imminent threat she faced, mere moments away from death.

With the knife now out of the equation, Kayla’s fear morphed into a fierce rage. She flung the blanket aside, ready to pounce on Renee in a fit of fury.

“Shhh.” Renee raised a finger to her lips, a gesture demanding silence. “Let’s make a deal. I’ll divorce Adam, but you must do something for me in return.”

Kayla froze mid-lunge, confusion flashing across her face. “W-What did you just say?”

“I said, I’ll divorce Adam, but I need your assistance,” Renee clarified, her voice steady.

Kayla narrowed her eyes, suspicion creeping in. “What kind of assistance?”

Renee stood tall, closing the distance between them, leaning in to whisper conspiratorially in her ear. “I want you to do something for me…”

After leaving the ward, Renee cast a glance down the hallway. At the far end, she spotted Adam and Julian engaged in a lively conversation by the window.

She didn’t call out to them.

Instead, she turned quietly and retraced her steps back to her ward, the weight of her thoughts heavy upon her.
