While Riley was preparing breakfast for her mother, Adrian took the opportunity to speak with Renee. He entered the guest room and asked the nurse to give them a private time.

"I don't want to talk to you," Renee said, averting Adrian's gaze.

"I'm sorry, but you don't have a choice," Adrian said.

There was a brief silence between them, with Renee continuing to look away from Adrian. Finally, Adrian spoke, "I'm not using Riley, Renee. I admit that I initially wanted to do business with Charles Eros, but I would never purposely put Riley's life at risk for that."

"But you know what? Why can't Riley have it all? Have a father and have a mother?" Adrian asked. "Your actions left me to believe you are hiding something."

"I'm not hiding anything!" Renee spat.

"You had asked me to investigate who tried to hurt you, but you refuse to tell me who your enemy is," Adrian pointed out. "And now, you are trying to distance Riley from me."

"Haven't you forgotten that I am the only one who can protect Riley?" Adrian reminded. "If anything, Riley needs me, and I will protect her with my life."

While Renee remained silent, Adrian took some documents from the bag on his lap. He showed one file to Renee and said, "You left me with no choice, Renee. I had to look into you."

Renee was forced to scan the documents that Adrian had placed on the bed. What she saw shocked her! "How did you -"

"Oh, yeah?" Adrian asked. He gave her another folder and said, "Explain this then."

Renee opened the folder, and yet again, she gasped. She hurriedly kept everything inside the folders and stuffed the documents on her bedside table. She struggled to keep her stance but stood and pointed to Adrian, "It's not like that! It's not like that at all! My intentions were just to protect Riley and -"

"I'll give you the chance to clear the air and be honest with Riley," Adrian said. "Today, Riley and I will be taking you to a special place, one that you probably want to go and see."

"You better tell her everything because she deserves to know, Renee," Adrian said. "If you don't tell her, I'll be forced to tell her, and how would she feel if this all comes from me and not you? Would you rather lose Riley completely?"

"I still respect you for having raised Riley into a beautiful person, but please tell her the truth," Adrian said before giving Renee some space.

In the afternoon, Riley and Adrian brought Renee to Dowel City's Heavenly Gardens Cemetery.

Max drove them there, and Riley's security team was in a convoy with Clint in their car. The entire time, Riley noticed that Renee was restless. She often took deep breaths and fidgeted.

"Are you okay, Mom?" Riley asked. They settled into the backseat while Adrian took the passenger seat next to Max.

"Yes, I - I am fine," Renee said, looking out the window. "We are at the cemetery. Why?"
