Tanner White returned to Cabinda from Valdoria on Monday afternoon.
When he was brought to the hospital where Elise was staying, Camilla and the others were already waiting.
Elise stood beside Camilla, craning her neck to look, her fingers gripping Camilla's sleeve tightly, obvious anxiety and tension on her face.
When Tanner was carried in, Camilla felt her mother's legs give out. Elise stumbled, struggling to stand, but desperately tried to move forward.
Camilla supported Elise's arm, guiding her toward Tanner.
When their eyes met, Elise trembled. The tears she had been holding back finally broke free, and she rushed forward, burying her face against his chest in heavy sobs.
Her cries echoed down the hallway—heartbreaking and filled with lingering fear.
The medical staff moved Tanner into the hospital room. Elise followed closely, her tears never stopping.
Tessa and the others followed, a heavy knot forming in their chests.
They had only heard brief accounts of Tanner's condition before.
Now, witnessing it firsthand, they realized that mere words could never fully capture the agony of such a scene.
They couldn't even begin to imagine how Tanner had survived being imprisoned for over ten years, deprived of his limbs.
Elise was crying so hard she could barely catch her breath. No one stepped forward to comfort her—or rather, they simply didn't know what to say.
Tanner sighed. "See? I knew you'd react like this. That's why I didn't dare let Camilla tell you.
I'm fine now, really. I'm right here in front of you, aren't I?
Come on, no more tears. We have an audience. Let's not make a scene."
In the past, Tanner had always been Elise's rock, and she usually listened to whatever he said.
But this time, his words only sparked her anger. "Not tell me? Did you honestly think keeping me in the dark was for my own good?
All of you lied to me. Am I really that fragile?
Yes, seeing you like this is a shock. It hurts, and I'm going to cry. But did you think I'd just walk away because of it?
Tanner White, Camilla and I waited for you for over ten years. What could possibly matter more than you coming back to us?"
Her devastated tone struck Tanner's heart, filling him with guilt.
Tanner said, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have made that call on my own. I..."
