Victoria’s parents and Elijah’s father, Richard Carter, had spared absolutely no expense, pooling their resources to throw a massive, sprawling banquet for the graduates.

Richard hadn’t been able to make it to the morning ceremony, leaving Elijah’s sister, Sophia, and his little brother, Alex, to represent the family in the stands.

This lavish party was Richard’s way of making up for his absence, a grand gesture paired with a text promising a real, physical celebration and an absolute guarantee that he would be in the front row for the season game in a month.

The room was stunning. High ceilings dropped massive crystal chandeliers over dozens of circular tables covered in deep cream silks and towering floral arrangements.

A full catering staff moved through the space, carrying trays of champagne and high-end appetizers, while a live DJ set up near a massive wooden dance floor.

They hadn’t just invited a small circle of friends. The guest list was massive, encompassing almost every pocket of their university lives.

Victoria’s advanced study groups were there, sitting together near the front, looking slightly overwhelmed by the luxury.

The entire athletic department had been invited: the baseball team stood in a massive cluster near the bar, their loud laughter echoing through the room, while rows of football players, basketball athletes, and the hockey team filled out the surrounding tables.

Nova was there too, wearing a beautiful dark blue dress that made her eyes look like ice, sitting quietly near the edge of the room.

When Victoria and Elijah finally walked through the double doors, the entire ballroom erupted into an absolute roar.

The baseball players began banging their fists against the tables, chanting Elijah’s name, while Victoria’s friends clapped wildly.

“Look at this place,” Victoria whispered, her hand tucked securely into Elijah’s arm as she looked around the room. “Elijah, our parents went completely insane.”

“Let them,” Elijah murmured, his thumb rubbing against the back of her hand as he guided her through the crowd. “We earned every single bit of this.”

The bloggers and campus reporters who had managed to get invitations were already tucked into the corners of the room, their cameras clicking rapidly as the couple moved toward the head table.

Miles and Adele rushed over the second they sat down, Miles already holding two glasses of champagne.

“Elijah, man, top of the criminology class? I always knew you were smart, but seeing it on paper is terrifying.”

“Fuck off, Miles,” Elijah muttered.

As the night progressed, the atmosphere in the ballroom turned electric.

The food was served, a massive five-course meal that kept everyone quiet for at least forty-five minutes- before the music turned up and the dance floor opened.

Caleb sat at a table near the back with Nova. He had been watching the room, watching the way people moved, his mind still slightly dazed from the conversation with his father earlier that morning.

“You’re being very quiet,” Nova remarked softly, leaning closer to him so her voice wouldn’t get drowned out by the bass from the speakers. “Is your leg hurting? Your neck?”

“No, I’m fine,” Caleb replied, turning to look at her. The dark blue of her dress highlighted the soft curves of her shoulders and the full, beautiful shape of her body.

He cleared his throat, trying to keep his thoughts grounded.
