Elijah’s POV

The soft light from my laptop screen illuminated the dark, quiet kitchen as I sat at the island, staring at the high-resolution image posted across three different sports entertainment blogs.

The headline above it was absurd: Future Yankees Prospect Elijah Carter Reaches Out To Ex-Girlfriend Before Seasonal Opener?

A dark, bitter scoff escaped my throat.

Someone was actively trying to sabotage my relationship. It was so blatant, so deliberate, it made my blood run cold.

April Ford… the name hadn’t registered at first, but after staring at the screen for twenty minutes, the pieces started clicking together.

She had been one of Trinity’s friends back in freshman year-someone who hung around the edges of that entire messy crowd.

Whoever sent those messages using my name didn’t just stumble onto April’s page by accident. They knew my history. They knew exactly which buttons to push to create the maximum amount of damage, and they knew my circle well enough to pull an obscure name from my past to make the lie look authentic.

I grabbed my phone, opening a group thread with Miles.

‘Miles. I need a favor. Someone forged a DM conversation using my name to mess with Victoria. The handle belongs to an April Ford. I need to find out who actually owns the burner account that sent it.’

Miles replied almost instantly.

‘Say no more. I’ll call my brother, Kit. He’s good at tracking this kind of thing. Send me the screenshots and the link. We’ll figure it out tonight.’

“Thanks, man. I owe you. I typed back, setting the phone flat on the counter.

I rubbed my palms over my face, letting out a long, slow breath into the empty apartment. I was about to stand up and head toward the bedroom when my phone buzzed against the marble.

It was another text from Victoria.

My chest tightened as her name lit up the screen. She had been texting and calling nonstop for hours.

Every part of me wanted to pick up the phone, drive straight over to wherever she was, pull her into my arms, wipe the tears from her face, and tell her we were fine.

I hated knowing she was crying. I hated being the reason she was in pain.

But a deep, stubborn part of my pride was genuinely bruised.
