Have Your Heart
I Have Your Heart?
Victoria’s POV
“If you’re stressed about this test, I can go mess it up so you don’t even have to worry about taking it. I’m pretty sure a baseball bat to your professor’s laptop would buy you an extension.”
A genuine, unexpected burst of laughter escaped my lips, the sound cutting through the heavy quiet of the bedroom.
I covered my mouth, shaking my head.
“You are terrible. You can’t just threaten academia with violence, Carter.”
“Watch me,” he murmured, a small, genuine smile touching his lips as he watched me calm down.
Silence settled over the bed again, but this time it felt lighter. My mind drifted back to our conversation in the car, and the burning curiosity I’d been suppressing all night finally won. I turned my head to look at him.
“Aren’t you happy that Lexi is single now?” I asked softly, watching his expression closely.
“I noticed you didn’t show any excitement when I told you on the phone. Isn’t this exactly what you wanted?”
Elijah didn’t look at me. His eyes fixed onto the far wall, his jaw clenching slightly as his features smoothed into something unreadable.
“I lost feelings already,” he said flatly.
My lips parted in absolute disbelief. I stared at him, trying to see if he was just playing a game.
“That easily? Oh, come on, Elijah. It’s not that simple to just lose feelings for someone. You literally lower your standards just to get her attention, you don’t just switch it off in a week.”
An idea hit me, and my eyes glowed with a sudden spike of mischief.
“Or maybe…”
Elijah cut his eyes over to me, raising a brow.
“Maybe what?”
“Maybe the great Elijah Carter was just terrified that his crush didn’t like him back,” I teased, leaning in slightly.
“Maybe you’re just backing out now because you’re scared she would have rejected you if you actually tried.”

Fuve Your Heart?
Elijah stared at me for a long, quiet moment, his expression completely blank. Ther slowly, a soft, genuine smile broke out on his lips–a look that held no arrogance whatsoever.
“That’s not it, Lowe. It’s a lot deeper than that.”
I really looked at him then, seeing the hidden depth behind his usual defensive walls.
“You’re one hell of a mystery box, you know that?” I muttered.
“And do you want to solve the mystery, Victoria?”
The sudden use of my first name hung in the space between us. We shared an intense, lingering eye contact, my gaze searching his pupils, desperately wanting to decipher what went on inside his head, his mind, and his heart.
There was a strange, unnamable feeling Elijah stirred in me–something the world hadn’t given a label to yet.
We had this weird, unspoken connection that a simple agreement couldn’t define. All knew, deep down in my bones, was that I felt entirely safe and completely like myself whenever I was with him.
“You need to sleep,” he said, breaking the spell as he noticed the dark circles under my
eyes.
I was about to argue, about to tell him that my brain was still spinning, but he cut me off before the words could leave my mouth.
“I’ll hold you,” he said, his voice dropping into a quiet, serious tone. “That’s if you don’t mind.”
I swallowed hard, the offer sending a strange warmth through my chest. Without even thinking about it, I nodded in agreement.
I didn’t know why I was letting my guard down so completely, but I didn’t have the energy to fight him anymore.
Elijah laid back down against his pillows and kept his arm open, creating a space right beside his side.
“Come on.”
I hesitated for a brief second, my heart fluttering, before scooting across the mattress.
‘The moment I was close enough, he immediately welcomed me into his space,
wrapping his strong arm securely around my shoulders and pulling me tight against his side.
My head rested perfectly in the nook of his shoulder, my face pressed near his collarbone. He smelled divine–like clean linen and cedarwood.
I stared down at his chest, watching the steady rise and fall of his breathing.
