Do You Still Love Me When We Meet Again? (Aubrey and Damon) novel Chapter 152

Chapter152.

Who can argue with that?the eldest Aunt chimed in, lifting her teacup to take a leisurely sip. She glanced at Aubrey. Every time she visits, she heads straight for the bedroom, sleeps until noon, and lets Damon cook special meals just for her. Ah, some people just don’t understand how to contribute in a family home.

Zachary’s eyes darkened, his handsome, stern face devoid of any warmth, as serious as if he were dealing with a criminal. Aunt, my brother just happens to adore his wife. Maybe you’re just jealous because Uncle doesn’t spoil you like that?

The eldest Aunt’s face flushed crimson, then paled, her anger reaching a boiling point. She slammed the teacup down with a loud thud.

Aubrey didn’t dare to say a word.

Her future brotherinlaw’s verbal sparring skills were quite impressive, and she was strangely touched by his defense.

When Zachary looked at Aubrey again, his voice softened dramatically. Aubrey, let’s go have lunch.

Grandpa Blackwood also spoke up, Yes, you must all be hungry. Let’s go eat.

Okay,Aubrey replied with a nod.

She turned and headed towards the kitchen.

Behind her, Damon’s stern warning echoed.

Listen up, everyone,Damon said, his voice dropping to a dangerous level. Aubrey is the apple of my eye, which makes her the apple of our entire family’s eye. Lay off the passiveaggressive bullshit, or you’ll have all of us to deal with. Trust me, you don’t want that smoke.

Damon, isn’t that a bitmuch?Evan asked, trying to smooth things over.

Cousin, how about I throw some shade at Nina and see how you like it?Damon shot back, his eyes daring Evan to disagree.

Evan wisely shut his mouth, offering a strained smile as he turned his attention to Nina.

Nina’s only asset was her family’s connections.

She didn’t work, content to play the pampered princess at home, spoiled rotten by her parents. She had a penchant for gaudy displays of wealth, a stark contrast to their family’s preference for a lowkey lifestyle. Nina, on the other hand, was always dripping in designer labels, decked out in flashy jewelry, and caked in makeuptacky as hell.

Her looks were nothing to write home about, and she clearly neglected her figure. Evan found her embarrassing to be seen with.

If it weren’t for the leverage he gained from his fatherinlaw, he wouldn’t have given her a second glance.

Aubrey entered the kitchen to find Damon standing at the stove.

He was dressed in black shirt and pants, his broad shoulders tapering to a narrow waist. His back was straight and strong, radiating a quiet, focused

energy.

Warm, amber light spilled through the side window, softening the entire space into a haze of gentle glow, except for him. He was sharply defined, radiant, brimming with a silent, powerful intensity.

Aubrey’s breath hitched.

Suddenly, she thought, my man is just so damn hot, even from the back!

Now, she was one of the lucky ones, blessed by fate. She couldn’t afford to lose this man again.

She couldn’t help but move forward, her footsteps so light that Damon didn’t hear her.

She wrapped her arms around his waist, hugging him tightly from behind.

For a moment, Damon’s body stiffened. He paused, glancing down at the slender, pale, and familiar hands clasped around his waist. A slight smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he placed his warm hand over hers on his stomach, asking softly, You awake?

Yeah,Aubrey murmured, pressing her face tightly against his broad, solid back, inhaling his pleasant scent. It reminded her of fresh mountain air, or the faint fragrance of a pine forest, invigorating and comforting.

Your aunt left you some food, but since you threw up this morning, I figured you might not have much of an appetite. So, I made you some beef congee with a poached egg.

Aubrey’s heart swelled with warmth. Thank you, Damon.

Silly girl, no need for such formality.Damon murmured, gently stroking her forearm, savoring the feeling of her more from bod

When I woke up and went to wash my face, I threw up again, bringing up everything I hadn’t digested from breat

Damon immediately unwound her arms, turning to face her, his eyes filled with concern. Where does it hur?

I feel better after throwing up, there’s no discomfort.

Still worried, Damon raised her hands, holding them suspended in the air as he watched the steadiness of her fingers

Perfectly still, no trembling.

It didn’t seem like a somatic episode.

Is your stomach upset? No diarrhea, right?

No,Aubrey replied, shaking her head.

Damon’s expression remained grave. We’re getting you an appointment at the hospital later.

It’s not that serious; I probably just ate something that didn’t agree with me,Aubrey chuckled, trying to reassure him. We game back to visit Grandpa

If we leave again, your aunts and uncles will start their passiveaggressive comments.

Damon’s brow furrowed. You shouldn’t care what they say. You can ignore them.

I really feel fine right now. If I throw up a third time, we’ll see a doctor then, okay?”

Damon cupped the back of her head, bending down to meet her gaze. Okay, if anything feels off, you have to tell me. Don’t try to tough it out.

Aubrey nodded.

Turning, Damon grabbed a large spoon and lifted the lid of the pot, stirring the congee. Almost ready. Have a seat, and I’ll dish some out for you

Aubrey craned her neck to get a better look.

She saw him add a few slivers of ginger, then slide in the marinated beef slices, crack in an egg, and immediately turn off the heat, stirring everything together.

The porridge bubbled and simmered in the earthenware pot.

The appetizing colors and the rich aroma wafting through the air made Aubrey’s mouth water, and her stomach growled loudly.

She perched on a stool at the kitchen island.

Damon adjusted the seasoning, then filled a bowl for her and placed it in front of her. Careful, it’s hot.

Aubrey nodded, picked up her spoon, and gently stirred the porridge.

Damon sat down across from her, watching her with a deep, expectant gaze.

Aubrey scooped up a small spoonful, blew on it gently, and then put it in her mouth. It was smooth, soft, and subtly flavorful, the beef and egg a >erfect combination.

This is amazing,Aubrey said with genuine admiration, her smile bright and radiant. Eating something she loved always lifted her spirits.

Damon couldn’t help but smile back, seeing her face light up like that.

Aubrey scooped up another spoonful, gently blew on it, and then offered it to Damon. Try it, too. You made the porridge so creamy and smooth; it’s eally delicious.

Damon looked at the spoon she was offering. Before he even tasted it, a warm feeling bloomed in his heart, making his gentle smile even sweeter. He ook the spoon from her hand and ate the porridge.

So sweet! (The moment, not just the taste.)
