Do You Still Love Me When We Meet Again? (Aubrey and Damon) novel Chapter 213

Chapter 213: Her Heart Skipped a Beat

Damon walked over with a tray. He spotted Ryan and Serena and asked, Haven’t you guys eaten yet?

Serena looked at Damon, a smile playing on her lips. Just got back from the base. We’re eating now, but let’s head back together afterward. The data keeps glitching. It’s a total headache,

Fine, Damon replied. He set the food down and sat across from Aubrey. His voice immediately softened, turning gentle. The roast chicken looks good today. And I got the sea fish you like.

Thanks, Aubrey said, keeping her tone polite,

Damon pushed a bowl of soup toward her. Drink the soup first. I’ll pick the bones out of the fish for you.

Aubrey felt a flush of embarrassment. I can do it myself, she whispered.

Damon gave her a look of soft approval and nodded with a smile. Yeah.He didn’t stop what he was doing, though. He used his fork and spoon to carefully flake the fish, picking out every single bone.

Serena’s gaze darkened as she watched him. Her knuckles whitened as she gripped her tray, her smile looking more forced by the second. Wow, Damon. You really spoil your girlfriend, don’t you? You’re even deboning her fish for her.

To Damon, she was just another colleague. He didn’t even bother to look up or respond.

Ryan knew exactly how Damon felt about Aubrey, so this didn’t surprise him at all. Come on,he nudged Serena. Let’s not kill the mood for the happy couple. Let’s go get our own food.

Serena walked toward the serving area with Ryan, but she couldn’t help glancing back at Damon and Aubrey every few steps.

Aubrey took a sip of her soup. When she looked up, her eyes locked with Serena’s again. Serena looked panicked and quickly averted her gaze.

Seeing that look in Serena’s eyes made Aubrey look back at Damon, a flicker of worry hitting her chest.

But then again, maybe there was nothing to worry about.

When she was sick, he insisted on bringing her to work just so he could keep an eye on her.

When it was time to eat, he was the one who went to get her tray and bring her food.

And when she had fish, he sat there and picked out every bone for her.

Damon was basically coddling her like she was a precious child.

Before she lost her memory, he must have been just as good to her. It explained why the old her hadn’t wanted the surgery to forget him. She’d been willing to stay with him forever, even if they never tied the knot.

A man like Damonwellbred, principled, from a powerful family, and insanely handsomewas the ultimate catch. Women probably threw themselves at him no matter where he went.

Even her male childhood best friend had a crush on him. That was how magnetic he was. He was a total heartbreaker, regardless of gender.

Serena’s gaze was hard to miss. The way she looked at himwith that mix of worship and a secret crushwas just too obvious.

They were colleagues, together day in and day out.

The thought left Aubrey’s heart feeling heavy. She let out a quiet sigh and lowered her head to focus on her soup Damon set a piece of fish, perfectly deboned, in front of her. His eyes filled with worry. What’s wrong? Are you feeling okay?

I’m fine.Aubrey snapped out of her thoughts and forced a casual smile.

Damon rubbed his palms together to warm them up before reaching out to touch her forehead. He held it there for a moment.

She froze for a second. His cool palm pressed against her forehead, sending a jolt of warmth through her whole body. Every cell in her was screaming for him.

He pulled his hand back, his voice incredibly soft. Finish your dinner, then take your meds and get some sleep. You’ll feel better.

Yeah,Aubrey said with a soft smile, focusing on her food.

The way Damon doted on her was intoxicating. It made her heart flutter uncontrollably.

Serena and Ryan were sitting nearby. Aubrey caught Serena stealing glances at Damon more than once. Knowing they worked together every day sparked a pang of jealousy in her chest. She couldn’t help but feel a sudden sense of insecurity.

After dinner, Damon led her back to his ro

room.

It was a small studio, only a few hundred square feet, but it had everythinga bathroom, a balcony, a bed, a wardrobe, a desk, and wo chairs. It was simple, clean, and organized.

Damon didn’t have many personal belongings there. It was clearly just a temporary living arrangement.

He set the bags down and pulled Aubrey over to sit on the bed. He poured her a glass of warm water and gently placed the pills in her palm. Take these and get some sleep.

Aubrey looked up at him. I want to shower before I go to bed.

Damon sighed helplessly. Big Sis, you just had a hot bath this afternoon, and you still have a fever. It’s 45 degrees outside. You don’t need two showers a day in this weather.”

Aubrey’s face instantly flushed. Why are you calling me Big Sis?she asked, her voice thick with shyness. Aren’t you older than

me?

Damon’s grin widened, a mix of helplessness and pure adoration. He sat down beside her, his fingers gently brushing a stray lock of hair away from her cheek. He stared at her flushed face and whispered, You forgot? You’re the one who used to make me call you big sister.I’m only calling you that now to tell youyou smell amazing, and you’re clean. You really don’t need another shower. It’s only going to make your fever worse.

‘I’ll feel better if I shower before I sleep,Aubrey countered. She didn’t know why she was so obsessed with it. Maybe it was just a lifelong habit, something burned into her very bones.

She might have forgotten their old routine, but her body’s needs and reactions hadn’t changed one bit.

Take your meds first.Damon handed her a glass of water.

Aubrey took it, popped the pills into her mouth, and washed them down.

Once he saw she’d swallowed them, Damon got up and headed to the bathroom.

A moment later, he walked back out carrying a basin of steaming hot water. You’re still running a fever. Just soak your feet, but no shower tonight.

Fine.Aubrey didn’t push it. She leaned over to take off her shoes, but Damon beat her to it. He dropped to one knee in front of her, lifted her foot, and started sliding her shoes off for her.

Don’tAubrey’s heart hammered against her ribs. she tried to pull her foot back. I can do it myself.

I’ve got you,Damon said. He wrapped his hand around her ankle, pinning it in place so she couldn’t move. He slid her shoes off and peeled away her white cotton socks. As he gripped her slim, pale ankle, he noticed even her socks carried the faint, clean scent of lavender detergent.

The moment his palm brushed against her bare skin, a wave of heat rushed through her. The intimacy of it made her face flush with a sudden, intense shyness. Damon, really. I can do it. You don’t need to wash them for ine.

Damon’s warm hand closed firmly around her soft foot, lowering it gently into the steaming water so she could adjust to the
