Chapter 241: The Ambush (Part 3) – All Alone

The high–end surround sound system roared to life. A phone recording started playing, and Aubrey’s voice echoed through the entire living room.

The audio had been hacked to pieces–cut and spliced to remove any context. It was impossible to tell why she was saying those things or what had prompted the conversation.

They were playing a completely twisted, one–sided version of the truth.

Aubrey’s voice blared through the speakers: “Uncle Charles, I’ve lost my memory. I don’t love Damon like that anymore. This is a business decision. Look around–where am I going to find someone better? I’m thirty. I don’t have time to waste years vetting another man. Damon is rich, he’s powerful, and he’s hot. Most importantly, he spoils me. I’m not an idiot. I have no reason to walk away. Even if my dad’s name is never cleared, I’m still marrying him.

Everyone looked on in pure shock. Faces shifted from disbelief to cold, hard fury.

Even the family members who usually doted on Aubrey were speechless. They were frozen, paralyzed by the heartless words that had just filled the room.

After all, the entire family took immense pride in Damon’s career. His work was their greatest honor. They loved Damon first–and because they loved him, they had opened their hearts to her.

But now, they were hearing her admit she didn’t love him. They were hearing that she was calculating his worth like a business deal, willing to sabotage his future just to lock him into a marriage.

Tracy and Olivia stared at her, their faces masks of pure shock.

Disappointment washed over Chase and Victoria, and they fell into a pained, heavy silence. Even Old Mr. Blackwood, the one who had always been her fiercest protector, looked away, unable to say a single word.

After all, no matter the rank or the money, nothing brought more honor to the Blackwood name than Damon’s contributions to the aerospace industry. It was the family’s crowning jewel.

To throw away a career like that for the sake of a marriage? The mere thought of it was enough to make any of them sick.

The moment Aubrey admitted it, Aunt Hannah was the first to strike. “I didn’t realize you were so malicious,” she barked, her face contorting with rage. “A girl with your background should be thanking her lucky stars that you even got to be Damon’s girlfriend. Charles glared at Zach. “These are Aubrey Hayes’s exact words. She admitted it herself. Does the rest even matter?”

Of course it matters,” Zach said with a faint smile. “To me, it sounds like Aubrey was threatening you. But why? What was the context? Let’s hear the whole recording before everyone jumps to conclusions.”

Charles let out a cold snort. His face was like stone, and he didn’t say another word.

Evan spoke up, his voice slow and cold. “She’s got no shame, so she thinks she’s untouchable. She obviously threatened my dad to tay out of her marriage with Damon. After all, my parents have never had any respect for low–class women like her.”

Zach’s fist tightened. He glared at Evan and snapped, “Watch your mouth, Evan.”

Ivan went quiet, and Charles spoke up next. “Zach, this has nothing to do with you. Stay out of it.”

silence fell over the living room. The atmosphere was heavy and suffocating.

Hannah looked at Old Mr. Blackwood, her voice tight with anxiety. “Dad, say something. We can’t let Aubrey get her way.”

As soon as Hannah finished, the aunts and their husbands jumped in. They swarmed Chase and Victoria, insisting they stop Aubrey ‘rom ever marrying into the Blackwood family.
