Do You Still Love Me When We Meet Again? (Aubrey and Damon) novel Chapter 241

Chapter 241: The Ambush (Part 3) All Alone

The highend surround sound system roared to life. A phone recording started playing, and Aubrey’s voice echoed through the entire living room.

The audio had been hacked to piecescut and spliced to remove any context. It was impossible to tell why she was saying those things or what had prompted the conversation.

They were playing a completely twisted, onesided version of the truth.

Aubrey’s voice blared through the speakers: Uncle Charles, I’ve lost my memory. I don’t love Damon like that anymore. This is a business decision. Look aroundwhere am I going to find someone better? I’m thirty. I don’t have time to waste years vetting another man. Damon is rich, he’s powerful, and he’s hot. Most importantly, he spoils me. I’m not an idiot. I have no reason to walk away. Even if my dad’s name is never cleared, I’m still marrying him.

Charles’s voice sounded desperate in the recording: You don’t love him anymore? Do you really want to ruin his life? You weren’t like this. You used to sacrifice everything for his dreams, you-

Aubrey cut him off with a cold laugh. Uncle, save the lecture. I don’t feel anything for him. I’ve weighed my options, and he’s the best choice for a husband. Just watch me. I’ll do whatever it takes to wrap him around my finger, get him to quit his job, and marry

  1. me.

The audio cut out. The room went dead silent.

Everyone looked on in pure shock. Faces shifted from disbelief to cold, hard fury.

Even the family members who usually doted on Aubrey were speechless. They were frozen, paralyzed by the heartless words that had just filled the room.

After all, the entire family took immense pride in Damon’s career. His work was their greatest honor. They loved Damon firstand because they loved him, they had opened their hearts to her.

But now, they were hearing her admit she didn’t love him. They were hearing that she was calculating his worth like a business deal, willing to sabotage his future just to lock him into a marriage.

It was a massive blow. A total gut punch to everyone in the room.

Tracy was the first to snap. She couldn’t believe it. She shot up from her seat, ready to challenge her elders to defend Aubrey. There’s no way she said that!she shouted. Uncle, where did you get that fake recording? Are you trying to frame her?

Victoria didn’t want to believe it either. Her heart ached as she turned to Aubrey, her voice soft and trembling. Aubrey, honey, don’t be scared. Your whole family is right here. No one is going to bully you. Just tell methat recording is a fake, right? You didn’t actually say those things.

A chill swept through Aubrey, freezing the blood in her veins. She felt icecold from head to toe, but her voice was eerily steady when she spoke. I said it. Those are my words.

Tracy and Olivia stared at her, their faces masks of pure shock.

Disappointment washed over Chase and Victoria, and they fell into a pained, heavy silence. Even Old Mr. Blackwood, the one who had always been her fiercest protector, looked away, unable to say a single word.

After all, no matter the rank or the money, nothing brought more honor to the Blackwood name than Damon’s contributions to the aerospace industry. It was the family’s crowning jewel.

To throw away a career like that for the sake of a marriage? The mere thought of it was enough to make any of them sick.

The moment Aubrey admitted it, Aunt Hannah was the first to strike. I didn’t realize you were so malicious, she barked, her face contorting with rage. A girl with your background should be thanking her lucky stars that you even got to be Damon’s girlfriend. That was already more than you deserved. And yet, you actually tried to manipulate him into quitting his job just to marry you? You’re disgusting.

Disgusting doesn’t even cover it,the aunt added, her voice dripping with venom. She’s a total viper.

I honestly don’t know what Damon sees in her,the second aunt added, her voice dripping with disdain. There are so many girls from the best families in New Haven who are prettier, more successful, and way kinder than her. They’re all lined up to marry him, yet he’s obsessed with her? He’s clearly lost his mind.

Exactly. There is no way we’re letting her into this family, the first aunt snapped, turning sharply toward Chase and Victoria. Chase, Victoria, say something! Take a stand! You can’t just sit there and let her trash Damon’s career.

The tension in the living room was suffocating. Everyone was talking over each other, ganging up on Aubrey and tearing her to

pieces.

They attacked her. They mocked her. They put her on trial.

Even the cousins who were usually quiet started whispering their disapproval.

Charles Blackwood asked sternly, Chase, Victoria, what do you think?

Chase and Victoria both looked torn.

Chase’s face was dark, and he remained silent. Victoria finally spoke up, Charles, we can’t handle this behind our son’s back. We have to wait until he gets home. As his parents, we respect his choice.

That’s foolish!Charles snapped. This woman doesn’t love your son. She’s trying to destroy his career, and you still want to respectthat?

Zach Blackwood’s deep voice rang out, clear and steady. Uncle, that audio was edited, wasn’t it? Cutting the beginning and the end s the easiest way to frame someoneand the most dangerous.

Charles glared at Zach. These are Aubrey Hayes’s exact words. She admitted it herself. Does the rest even matter?

Of course it matters,Zach said with a faint smile. To me, it sounds like Aubrey was threatening you. But why? What was the context? Let’s hear the whole recording before everyone jumps to conclusions.

Charles let out a cold snort. His face was like stone, and he didn’t say another word.

Evan spoke up, his voice slow and cold. She’s got no shame, so she thinks she’s untouchable. She obviously threatened my dad to tay out of her marriage with Damon. After all, my parents have never had any respect for lowclass women like her.

Zach’s fist tightened. He glared at Evan and snapped, Watch your mouth, Evan.

Ivan went quiet, and Charles spoke up next. Zach, this has nothing to do with you. Stay out of it.

silence fell over the living room. The atmosphere was heavy and suffocating.

Hannah looked at Old Mr. Blackwood, her voice tight with anxiety. Dad, say something. We can’t let Aubrey get her way.

As soon as Hannah finished, the aunts and their husbands jumped in. They swarmed Chase and Victoria, insisting they stop Aubrey rom ever marrying into the Blackwood family. They couldn’t let her get her way. They demanded a clear answer right then and here, pushing them to join the rest of the family. They had to present a united front, tear the couple apart, and kick her out for ;ood.

Everyone started talking at once. The living room grew loud and chaotic. Chase and Victoria looked particularly torn, the hesitation lear on their faces.

Aubrey was fed up. She couldn’t listen to another word of this.
