Chapter 284: Extra 6 [The College Years]
Damon didn’t have much time to spend looking for her.
It hadn’t taken a single cent from his family. His tuition and living expenses all came from the money he earned working part–time.
He was swamped with a heavy courseload, so most of the time, he could only try to reach her through his phone.
He called and texted so much that Aubrey didn’t just ignore him–she blocked his number and all his socials
The pain of being suddenly ghosted hit him like a freight train. Damon was caught completely off guard. For the first time in his life, he understood what it felt like to truly suffer over a girl.
It was panic. It was anxiety. A dull ache started in his pulse and spread deep into his chest. His head was filled with thoughts of her, and the fact that he couldn’t see her was pure torture.
He was filled with frustration and regret. He wanted to slap himself for being so stupid. He kept obsessing over why he’d ever listened to Mason’s idiotic advice in the first place. He hated himself for being so aggressive and scaring Aubrey off.
About a week went by.
That Saturday, he went to her dorm and waited for her outside.
He stayed there from early morning until noon, but she never showed her face.
It wasn’t until evening that she finally stepped out. She was wearing a casual pinafore dress with her hair in two loose pigtails, scrolling through her phone as she strolled out of the building.
The sunset hit her face, making her soft skin glow. She looked so youthful and vibrant, like a breath of fresh air that could cut through any

Damon rushed after her and grabbed her wrist. He sounded hollow, like the life had been sucked out of him. “Bree, I’m sorry!”
Aubrey yanked at her arm, trying to pull away. “Let

Instead of letting go, he tightened his grip and forced her hand against his own cheek. “Hit me. Scream at me. Tell me what I have to do to make this right–just don’t shut me out. Don’t block me. Please, stop avoiding me.”
Her palm was limp, and he practically forced her to slap him. She snatched her hand back, her eyes turning red with fury. “You’re a liar,” she snapped. “I hate liars more than anything.”
I didn’t lie to you, Bree… I swear,
I
never lied.”
Aubrey let out a cold laugh, her eyes shimmering with tears. “You

I really am broke,” Damon insisted. “Ever since I started college, I haven’t taken a dime from my family. I earned my own tuition and paid for everything myself. You never asked about my family background, so I just didn’t bring it up.”
You lied and told me it was your first time…”
Damon cut her off. “It was my first time.”
Aubrey grew even more furious at his excuses. “You’re full of it. Do you seriously have zero self–awareness? You played me. You made me so nxious, making me worry that if we broke up, my next guy would be a total ‘blind box–that I’d end up with someone tiny or a two–minute man. Fine, I’ll let that go. But when I told you to stop, why didn’t you? When I said I’d had enough, why didn’t you respect me?”
Damon looked down and let out a heavy, ragged breath. He took a step forward, reaching out to take her hand.
The second his fingers brushed her palm, she yanked it away again.
So, you’re throwing me away?” Damon’s voice was hollow and dejected. He stood there, shoulders slumped like a kicked puppy, looking as if he were the one who had been bullied and broken.
Seeing him look so miserable made Aubrey’s heart twitch. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.
Damon’s voice dropped. “You blocked me. You won’t see me, and you won’t reply to my messages. You won’t even give me a real answer. Bree, are you really just going to ghost me like this? Is it over?”
Aubrey was just angry. Breaking up hadn’t even crossed her mind. But hearing him say those words made her heart drop. A sharp ache spread through her chest instantly.
She’d given him her first time. How could she just end things now?
