In that instant, all sound and color vanished from Aubrey Hayesworld.

She raced forward with almost frantic speed, stopping beside Damon, the world spinning around her. All she could see was a post of intense criprometa, searing her heart. Something choked her throat, rendering her speechless as numbness and tremors coursed through her.

Suddenly, her legs gave way, and she collapsed onto the ground.

Tears blurred her vision as she trembled, her hand reaching out to gently touch Damon’s fingers. She opened her mouth, but his name wouldn’t come. It felt like a giant hand was crushing her heart, a pain that resonated deep within her bones.

Damon lay face down on the bloodsoaked ground, seemingly lifeless, unconscious, and still.

Alex was on the phone, and so was the driver who hit him.

Tracy fell to her knees, trembling uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face as she reached out to feel for his breath.

No one dared to touch him, fearing they might cause further harm.

The agonizing wait felt like an eternity to Aubrey.

The ambulance and the police arrived almost simultaneously, and they immediately placed Damon on a stretcher.

Seeing blood trickling from Damon’s pale lips, she felt as if a brilliant star was about to fall from the sky.

She clenched her cold, trembling fists, overcome with despair and grief, her whole world collapsing around her.

When her mother passed away, she only felt pain, a deep, aching pain.

But thisthis was a sorrow beyond mere pain. It was the desperate feeling that if Damon didn’t live, she wouldn’t either.

The man who loved her most in this world had been in a car accident because of her.

She could never forgive herself.

Tracy followed them into the ambulance.

In a daze, Alex grabbed her hand, pulled her into his car, and sped off, following the ambulance.

She was in so much pain that her mind was completely blank.

Time felt like a scythe, constantly cutting at her heart and draining her blood. Arriving at the hospital, she huddled powerlessly in a corner outside the emergency room, clutching her freezing body, all cried out, waiting in silence.

Tracy burst into tears as she reached the emergency room doors, her voice cracking with guilt.I’m so sorry, Damon. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have aken you to the courthouse. It’s all my fault. Damon, please be okay. Otherwise, I’ll never forgive myselfGod, please protect my brotherHe’s been good his whole life, never done anything wrong. Please, I beg you to help him get through thisGod, I’ll get on my knees and beg you

Tracy turned and collapsed to her knees, looking heavenward, sobbing.

Zachary arrived first, breathless. What happened to Damon?

Tracy got up and threw herself into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably, DamonDamon’s been in a car accident

Zachary’s eyes instantly turned red as he held Tracy tightly, reassuring her, He’ll be okay, he’s going to be okay. Don’t be scared.

His gaze swept to Aubrey in the corner. Her face was pale, and she was curled up, trembling, her expression griefstricken and desolate, as if her soul had been ripped away.

Soon, the rest of the Blackwoods began to arrive.

Damon’s grandfather, parents, aunt, cousins, and so on

The room was filled with people, yet eerily silent, everyone consumed by worry, fear, and anxious anticipation.

Every heart present was consumed with worry for Damon inside the operating room.

Zachary, however, was the only one who realized that Aubrey needed help too.

He went to the break room to get a cup of water, then knelt down in front of Aubrey, resting his forearm on his thigh as he offered it to her. Drink some water, Aubrey. It might help settle you.

Aubrey slowly raised her head, looking at Zachary,

Because the brothers resembled each other, seeing Zachary gave her a strange sense of familiarity, but it also brought Damon’s plight and her own gust crashing back.

With trembling hands, she slowly took the water from Zachary, her voice hoarse and barely audible as she choked out, Thank you.

Her hands shook so badly that some of the water spilled. She slowly brought the cup to her lips, taking a small sip.

Breathing hurt, swallowing hurt. After just one sip, she gently placed the cup on the floor next to her, wrapping her arms around her drawn up lega and burying her face in her knees.

Zachary gently patted her shoulder. Damon never gave up on you. Even knowing there wasn’t enough evidence to reopen your father’s case, he will asked me to investigate it privately. He’s been fighting for you all along. Why would you give up so easily?

Aubrey’s eyes, seemingly empty of tears, welled up again, silent tears escaping and dropping onto the floor as her shoulders shook uncontrollably, her face buried in her knees as she sobbed.

Across the room, the Blackwood family sat together.

How did Damon get into a car accident?Hannah demanded, her voice laced with anger. What was the driver doing?

Tracy sniffled. It wasn’t the driver’s fault. He’s a victim, too. Damon was driving like a maniac, running across the road without looking.

Hannah was shocked. Why would he do that?

Tracy lowered her head.Aubrey was going to the courthouse with Alex to get married. He lost it.

That Aubrey Hayes,Hannah hissed, clenching her fist. How much further is she going to drag Damon down?

Before she could finish, Old Man Blackwood cut her off sharply. Damon broke traffic laws. What does that have to do with Aubrey? Don’t blame everything on the girl.

Hannah took a deep breath, shooting a glare at Aubrey in the corner.

Chase, his face etched with worry, muttered to himself, Yeah, he has to live with the consequences. It’s all my fault.

Honey, what do you mean?Victoria asked, wiping tears from her eyes, her voice choked with emotion.

It’s nothing,Chase muttered, shaking his head.

Just then, the doors to the operating room swung open, and a doctor emerged.

Almost everyone surged forward, Hannah supporting Old Man Blackwood as they joined the throng, practically mobbing the doctor.

Aubrey, however, remained huddled in her corner. The sight of the doctor only amplified her fear, leaving her limbs feeling like lead. She looked up, her face streaked with tears, her eyes fixed on the doctor.

The agonizing seconds before the doctor spoke stretched into an eternity. She was terrified of hearing the worst, terrified that Damon might be gone.

Having already endured the trauma of her mother’s death, she couldn’t bear to face it again. She simply didn’t have the strength to go into that >perating room and see Damon for the last time.

n those brief, torturous moments, she felt like her world was crumbling around her.
