June’s face went pale, then twisted into a mask of pure resentment.

They wanted her to beg Josie?

She’d rather die.

But the reality was cold. If Josie had truly cleaned out the entire Agri–Science Institute, the Base was backed into a corner. They couldn’t just force her to cough it up.

After all, nobody knew what happened to a spatial storage once the owner died. Would the loot drop, or would it vanish into the void?

It was a gamble the Base couldn’t afford to lose.

Besides, killing Josie wasn’t exactly a walk in the park anymore.

And for what? A big fat zero. They’d come all this way for nothing, and it was enough to make anyone’s blood boil.

The Supers and the army headed back to the base in a massive convoy. They reported the news the second they got through the gates.

The big shots at the top didn’t waste a second. They huddled up immediately to talk it over.

“Damn, I didn’t see this coming. Josie is way more powerful than we pegged her for. She’s not just a Rank–3 Metallic Super–that storage space of hers is freaking huge.”

The mockery stung. It felt like a literal slap to his face.

“Anyway, whatever,” one of them said, catching Tate’s darkening expression. “We just need to sit down and talk to Josie. If we drop the ‘do as I say attitude and actually offer her a fair trade, she’ll bite. She’s got a huge crowd from the Agri–Science Institute to look after now. She needs supplies just

as much as we do.”

“True,” another nodded in agreement. “She’s a major player now. We have to treat her as an equal.”

He looked over at Tate, his voice heavy with subtext. “What do you think, Mr. Jansen?”

Tate pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, forcing his rage down. “You’re right,” he said flatly. “I underestimated her. My mistake. Then again, both of those Quinn girls are a nightmare to deal with. Fine. Do it.”
