Bottom line: Don’t mess with her. Period.
So, Josie was rolled in with the red carpet treatment. They put her up in the VIP hotel, right in the best suite they had.
“Quick question. Where’s June staying?” Josie tossed a chocolate bar onto the front desk like it was pocket change.
These days, chocolate was pure gold.
A full day’s wages might not even buy you a single bar.
The receptionist snatched it up like she’d just won the lottery. She couldn’t wait to spill everything she knew. “Miss June? She lives in the luxury district out back, Villa 3. But she’s rarely there. She spends most of her time with her parents in the high–rise over there. Building A, Unit 1203.”
Josie got exactly what she came for. She flashed a sweet smile and headed to her room.
Late that night.
Josie sat perched on a rooftop, her binoculars locked onto June.
These days, June was the base’s golden girl.
Getting an audience with her was like trying to get an audience with the Pope.
Jnless you had serious power, serious cash, or major connections, you could forget about it. To the average person, she was totally >ut of reach.
Her Tier–3 Plant Manipulation could heal almost anything now. That meant she was busier than ever–and raking in mountains of upplies.
osie didn’t rush it. She tailed June for three straight days, mapping out her routine and, more importantly, sniffing out her secret
tashes.
Nice.
She really was a little packrat.
How long had it been since the last time I raided her?
A month? Only a month and she’d already built back this much?
Quinn had built up quite the stash again. A real goldmine.
sk, tsk, tsk.
can’t wait to see her face when she loses her powers–and all those supplies–all over again.
can’t wait.
by the fourth day, June was a mess. She was on edge, her heart racing for no reason. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something
vas wrong.
he headed home early that day. The second she saw Arthur and Sylvia, she snapped, “Did Josie come by? Did she look for you?”
Nothing,” Arthur said, letting out a long sigh of relief. “She’s probably at the base for something else. She probably doesn’t even
lave time for us.”
Good. I hope she stays away,” Sylvia added, her nerves clearly shot. “I still have a bad feeling about this. When is she finally leaving”
No clue. She hasn’t come for me yet.” June’s brows locked into a hard scowl. “I checked. All she’s been doing lately is hanging round HQ, eating and drinking with the base brass. She hasn’t done a damn thing. I don’t know what her angle is. She hasn’t even ooked for me, but it feels wrong. She’s definitely cooking up something big.”

Keep some backup with you when you go out,” Sylvia warned. “Don’t let yourself get caught alone.”
une nodded. “I know.”
From that day on, June went into full–blown survival mode.
She was never alone. Not even for a second.
She even made sure she had company while she slept.
Given her high status in the base, she had plenty of volunteers willing to share her bed.
But don’t get it twisted.
She only picked women.
