Chapter 542.

June watched as her life’s work was dismantled piece by piece. She completely collapsed.

“No! Don’t! You can’t do this to me!” June knelt on the ground, weeping bitterly.

She didn’t want to be an ordinary person. She had to be superior!

When everyone left, she was the only one remaining in the empty, cold laboratory, staring blankly at the floor.

June suddenly let out a cold laugh. “Josie, do you think this will break me? Dream on!”

“Even if I can’t be the strongest human, you’ll never represent all of humanity!”

“I, June, will never let you have your way!”

When Malcolm returned to his room, Sylvia Sutton rushed over to greet him with excessive flattery, helping him off with his coat and shoes and handing him a towel to wipe his hands.

In the past, Malcolm would have been delighted by this. But today, he wasn’t in the mood.

“The servants can handle this,” he said flatly.”You don’t have to do it yourself.”

Sylvia pulled back, her face falling into a mask of sorrow.”Malcolm, are you tired of me? Do you think I’m old? Do you not love me anymore

Malcolm patiently took Sylvia’s hand and pulled her down to sit.”I know you want to plead for your daughter.”

Sylvia started to speak, but Malcolm cut her off.

“In the past, I would have supported her. But the situation is different now!”

“We are facing a life-and-death crisis.”

“I’m not being an alarmist. It’s a real crisis. Our true enemies aren’t the Undead or mutants. They are an interstellar civilization!”

Malcolm was truly devoted to Sylvia; he was willing to share even the highest secrets with her. But Sylvia didn’t believe a word of it.

“Malcolm, if you don’t want to help, fine. But why tell such a ridiculous lie?” Sylvia stood up angrily. “Even if you want to deceive me, find a decent reason. I misjudged you! I thought I could trust you with my whole heart.”

As she spoke, Sylvia covered her face and began to cry.

Seeing her tears, Malcolm’s heart immediately softened. He stood up and pulled her into a hug.”I’m not lying to you. It’s all true. This news is being kept quiet for now and can’t be leaked, understand?”

Sylvia believed him even less now. She pushed him away and said coldly, “Forget it. If you won’t help, I won’t force you! I want some peace for a few days. I’m leaving!”

With that, Sylvia turned and left the room in tears.

Malcolm had just reached the door in pursuit when his subordinate arrived with a folder.”Base Commander, these are documents sent from Quinshaw Base. You need to review and arrange them personally.”

Upon hearing there was official business, Malcolm immediately abandoned the idea of chasing Sylvia and went to his office.

After all, Sylvia was in the base and had no real skills of her own. Where could she possibly go?

He’d coax her back once he was finished with work.
