Josie hadn’t seen this coming.

Didn’t the military have their own spatial Supers?

She thought it, so she asked it.

You guys don’t have your own spatial Supers? Why come to an outsider? Aren’t you worried I’ll just pocket the grain and never give it back?

Zane laughed. We have them, sure. But their capacity is a joke. Most of them can barely fit a single truckload. They can’t hold a candle to you.”

I saw what you did that day. You cleared out all that gear with a flick of your wrist. Your storage is on a whole different level. For a heavyduty move like this, you’re the only one for the job.

You think we’re flying blind? We know exactly how much grain is in those silos. If even a single ton goes missing, we’ll know.

Besides, you aren’t stupid enough to pick a fight with the government, right?

osie gritted her teeth. Sly bastard..

Since we’re talking business, she added, what’s the plan? What is the government actually doing about all this?

Can you guys actually clear out the undead?

Zane gave a bitter laugh. I wish I had an answer for you. To be honest? It’s a total shitshow on our end too.

A third of the highranking officials in Fort City turned instantly. They tore through everyone around them.

They were at some big event when it hit. The Mayor and the Deputy Mayor turned right there on stage and started chewing on the city council. The

ext guy in line had a heart attack from the shock and dropped dead the next morning.

The guy running the show now? He’s just an interim figurehead.

The military isn’t doing any better.

Every satellite in orbit went dark at the same time. Military, civilianeverything just stopped working.

We’re basically on an island now. Total information blackout. We have no idea what’s happening outside the city limits

I was only here leading a temporary op in Fort City. Now, I can’t even get a hold of my own CO.

Luckily, I had enough rank to pull some weight with the local units. I’m running point for the military here for the time being

But the local military base was hit just as hard. Within twentyfour hours, forty percent of my soldiers had turned into the Undead *

t took us a full week just to clear out the ranks and put down the ones who turned.

Things have finally stabilized, but most of our leadership is gone. If they didn’t turn instantly, they were ripped apart by their own men.

In other words, both the government and the military are basically headless chickens right now.

But we all agreed on one thing: food is the top priority. No matter who ends up in charge, we have to secure those supplies.

Even if half of Fort City turned, we still have nearly ten million survivors to feed.

No food is coming in from the outside. These stockpiles are the only thing keeping people alive.

For the last two days, we’ve put all rescue ops on hold. Every man we have is out there hauling food.

We’re just trying to save whoever we can.

If nobody’s really in charge, who’s paying me? Josie asked. I don’t work for charity.

Don’t worry, I won’t make you work for free,Zane said with a faint smile. I still have the authority to autorize a payout. Just don’t get greedy, lright?
