Chapter 562.

Nadia was a woman of experience, after all. Josie’s words made her sit bolt upright.”Of course I want to be the one making the rules “There it is!” Josie smiled. “The Nadia I know isn’t someone who cries when she hits a snag. If someone tries to put you on the table, you pur them on the table instead. You just have to be strong enough!”

Nadia let out a bitter laugh. “But we’re just a bunch of farmers. No matter how strong we get, what can we really do?”

“My people are mostly the elderly, the weak, and the frail. I only have about a hundred thousand people with actual combat capabilities.” “The rest are just laborers. Their combat power is low, and they can’t handle high risks.”

“Today, people from The Rivers Base suddenly showed up. They claimed the grain we supplied three months ago was tainted and caused dozen of their men to die from stomach issues. They demanded an ‘explanation”!”

“It’s ridiculous! That shipment was three months ago. No one died back then, yet they’re claiming people are dying now? It’s just a patheti excuse to force The Peaks Base into a corner. They want me to start cutting off my own limbs.”

“And the Official Base is no better. Malcolm sent men to tell me flat out that the day the Great Base is completed is the day The Peaks Base disappears. He suggested I bring my people and merge into the Official Base now so he can ‘protect’ me.”

“Look at them-one playing the bad cop and the other playing the good cop. What a performance!”

“With an interstellar civilization breathing down our necks, all they care about is the tiny bit of power they hold in their hands. It’s pathetic! They’ll cling to those illusions of authority until the moment they die!”

“But I, Nadia Neville, managed to keep these people alive through the apocalypse. I won’t let those two have their way!”

“If it really comes down to it and The Peaks Base is destined to fall apart, I’d rather you be the one to take over!”

Josie laughed softly.”It won’t come to that.”

“Why do you say that?” Nadia asked.

“Like I said,” Josie replied, “if you want true freedom and don’t want to be someone else’s dinner, there’s only one path: become the rule-maker.”

“And I am the rule-maker.”

“In my world, there is no such thing as a ‘tripartite balance of power’ or a ‘three-way negotiation.”

“There is only one possibility: my dictatorship.”

“I set the rules. Under those rules, everyone obeys!”

“Whether it’s the Official Base, The Peaks Base, or The Rivers Base, you will all be my subordinates. You will not have a say in my rules.”

“If anyone has an objection, they can either challenge me and win, or they can get out of my territory and lose my protection. There is no third option!”

“I, Josie Quinn, have never used my own achievements to build someone else’s legacy.”
