Chapter 576.
She was dressed in a sleek, black military uniform.
She was clearly a soldier.
She didn’t look directly at the camera at first. Instead, she walked into a room, snapped to attention, and delivered a crisp salupe.
“Major Valerie Vance reporting for duty!”
“Valerie, I have an incredibly difficult mission to entrust to you. It will likely involve life-threatening danger… or worse, you may die in some forgotten corner of the universe.” A white-haired man with stars on his shoulders looked at her with a complex expression. After reviewing everyone in the service, you are our best candidate.”
“If your luck holds and you complete this mission, our planet might still have a breath of life left. We might actually be able to turn this around.” “If you fail, our entire world will go down with you.”
Valerie accepted without a moment’s hesitation.”I obey my orders. I will follow the plan!”
“You must realize this is a one-way trip,” her superior reminded her, his voice heavy with regret.”Traveling through temporal turbulence is an inherently risky gamble. You could be torn apart before you even reach your destination, never completing the mission.”
“But we don’t have any other choices, do we?” Valerie replied, her gaze turning toward the window.
Josie and Cyrus’s eyes followed the camera’s perspective, looking out that same window.
In an instant, both of them gasped in unison!
Outside the glass was not a vast, peaceful starry sky. Instead, the void was choked with a dense, countless swarm of starships and mechas. So, in her mother’s era, humanity had already been pushed to this brink by Interstellar Marauders?
It wasn’t just one or two ships-it was a literal armada!
Was the universe insane?
Had Earth’s civilization evolved to the point of fighting starships back then?
If humanity couldn’t win even with that level of technology, how could their current, primitive civilization possibly stand a chance? Josie didn’t have time to dwell on it because the camera pulled back to the conversation.
“I don’t know why this wormhole suddenly appeared, or why the dimensions are folding. But this is indeed our final chance.” Valerie’s voice was firm.”My country raised me. No matter how difficult it is, I will fulfill the country’s trust.”
With that, she snapped to attention again. “Please, let me try!”
The people in the room remained silent for a long time. Finally, one of them nodded. “Very well. Comrade Vance, good luck!”
Valerie saluted each person in the room before turning and walking away with a graceful, decisive stride.
The next scene showed the birth of Celeste.
