She drew a slow breath, an odd smile spreading across her face as she looked at Sean.
“So you really think that if I forgive Tessa, I’ll forgive you too?”
At those words, Tessa jerked her head up.
She stared at Grace in shock—could it be that Grace was actually willing to forgive them this time?
She even glanced at Sean, momentarily confused.
She had once thought Sean’s stories about Grace’s feelings when she was younger were just lies.
But now, if Grace truly chose to forgive them, then perhaps those feelings had been real after all.
If that were the case, then Sean hadn’t deceived her.
The moment that thought took hold, a spark of hope flared again in Tessa’s chest.
Everything suddenly seemed brighter, almost unreal.
If Sean could use his looks to win Grace’s forgiveness once more, then this whole situation might still be salvageable.
And if there was room to negotiate, then she wouldn’t have to worry about prison anymore.
With that thought, Tessa looked at Grace with open expectation, desperate to see whether there was still any chance for discussion.
Sean, hearing Grace’s words, also lit up with anticipation as he looked at her.
He spoke with barely concealed triumph. “Grace, I knew it. Deep down, you still care about me.
“Don’t worry. As long as you forgive me this time, I’ll agree to be with you. We’ll live well together. That’s what really matters.”
As he said this, his face was full of self-satisfaction.
It had to be said that Sean was astonishingly confident.
This was something Tessa had never truly realized before.
From her perspective, Sean had no leverage whatsoever to stand against Grace.
The Grace of today was far beyond someone like Sean’s reach.
After all, Sean had nothing left.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have come looking for her in the first place.
Tessa had already looked into all of this long before Sean explained anything.
Because no one in their right mind would accept a complete stranger suddenly appearing and claiming to be their father, especially not Tessa, who had been raised within the Walton family.
