Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 146

Right then, she wasn't acting like a wife divorcing her husband, but more like a businesswoman negotiating a deal.

Evan was at a loss for words. He stared at Emma, his eyes filled with confusion.

“We’ve settled the shares, so let's move on to the division of assets. You can flip the page and see for yourself. It lists all of your post-marital assets that I'm aware of. Legally, we should split them evenly. What do you think?”

Emma smiled as she looked at Evan.

“...Emma.”

Instead of answering her, Evan stood up, his expression slowly darkening, the initial calm completely gone.

“Yes, I’m listening. Go on.”

Her relaxed, almost careless posture cut Evan to the quick.

It was as if they weren't discussing the division of their assets in a divorce, but some trivial, insignificant matter.

“Are you really going to divorce me?”

Emma felt like she was getting tired of hearing that question. From the moment she decided to divorce him to signing the papers, she’d heard it at least ten times.

“I’ve already signed the divorce papers with you. Do you still think I’m joking?”

Emma let out a soft laugh. There was no mockery or scorn in it; she was simply amused by his question once again.

“But you...” *Aren’t you pregnant?*

Evan swallowed the rest of the sentence before it could escape. He looked at Emma with utter disbelief.

Mrs. Alvarez watched him descend from the second floor in a daze. He nearly stumbled on the last step, and she quickly rushed forward to steady him. “Sir, are you all right?” she asked with concern.

Seeing Evan’s distracted state, Mrs. Alvarez couldn’t help but glance toward the master bedroom upstairs.

She guessed that the master and missus were fighting again.

But it was a matter between the young couple, and it wasn't her place to ask too many questions. She could only offer some gentle advice. “Sir, the missus is pregnant now. As her husband, you should try to be a little more patient with her...”

At the mention of the pregnancy, Evan finally seemed to snap out of it. He looked at Mrs. Alvarez with a lost and helpless expression, asking softly, “Does she really love the baby?”

He had asked this same question the day he found out she was pregnant, and now he was asking it again.

Mrs. Alvarez found it a bit strange but answered truthfully nonetheless. “Of course. The missus cherishes the baby more than anyone. She's woken up from nightmares several times in the middle of the night, terrified by dreams of losing the baby again...”
