At this point, the decision seemed final.
Evan opened his mouth, wanting to say something more, but in the end, not a single word came out. His back was slightly hunched, gone was his usual tall, straight posture. He stood there, unable to speak through his pain.
The arguments were over, and everything had been said.
Mrs. Hayes took her daughter into her own room, while Mr. Hayes squeezed into bed with Eric. As for Evan, no one cared where he went.
The next morning, Eric was the first to notice Evan was gone. The suitcase and clothes that had been in his room had all disappeared, and calls to his phone went unanswered.
Emma told her brother calmly, "Don't worry about him. He probably went back."
If he went back, so be it. At least he wouldn't be an eyesore anymore.
Seeing their daughter's attitude, Mr. and Mrs. Hayes didn't say anything more and just told Eric to come have breakfast.
After the family finished eating, Emma went with her parents to the pharmacy.
Mr. Hayes rummaged through the numerous medicine cabinets behind the counter, gathering all the herbal remedies needed for recovery after an abortion.
The hospital in Riverton City was small, nothing like the large hospitals in Averton City. Considering her physical condition, Emma thought it over and decided it was best to go back to Averton City for the procedure.
While Mr. Hayes looked for the herbs, Mrs. Hayes organized them at the counter, her mind heavy with worry.
But she didn't want her mother to know she was sick. She didn't want to make her sad.
Emma forced a smile. "Mom, what are you talking about? Of course you wouldn't be any trouble. It's just…"
Emma thought quickly, then decided to use Eric as an excuse. "Eric's about to start his senior year, right? If you go to Averton City with me, what about Dad? He'll be here all by himself, managing the pharmacy."
"Oh, he still has a whole year before his college entrance exams, so don't worry about that. Besides, he's a grown boy. Can't he take care of himself?"
Mrs. Hayes stepped forward anxiously and took her daughter's hand. "It's you I'm worried about! You'll be over there all alone, with no family around to help!"
