Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 204

“Don’t worry, sis! Your little brother might look lazy, but my grades are actually pretty good! I’m practically a top student at Millford Ridge High School. My motto is to work hard and play hard!”

Since her brother had put it that way, Emma decided not to press the issue. She found a relatively clean spot to sit and said calmly, “I’m heading back tomorrow night.”

“What!?”

The words startled Eric so much he almost dropped his phone.

“You just got back a few days ago, and you’re already leaving? Why are you going back so soon?”

Eric hastily quit his game, tossed his phone aside, and looked at his sister with a worried expression. “Don’t go back so soon! I’m afraid my brother-in-law will bully you! When will you be back? Are you even coming back?”

Emma could see that Eric was genuinely worried, and she smiled, thinking her affection for her brother hadn't been in vain.

“I’ve been here for almost a week. I have some things to take care of in Averton City, so—”

“What things?” Eric interrupted. “Are you divorcing that jerk!?”

He saw his sister’s expression falter and realized he’d said the wrong thing. He quickly slapped a hand over his mouth. “Ugh, what brother-in-law? My mistake. I meant that Cooper guy!”

Although Evan had generally treated him well, when it came to a choice between his sister and Evan, Eric would always stand by his sister without hesitation.

Maybe she really had grown up, she thought, becoming more considerate of her parents. If her mother went with her to Averton City, she wouldn’t know anyone. Aside from Emma, she’d have no one to talk to.

She explained her reasoning to Eric, but he didn’t see it as a big deal. “When you’re not around, she can just scroll on her phone. She loves her shows anyway. She can binge-watch to her heart’s content.”

Emma rolled her eyes at her brother. “That might work for a day or two, but what about in the long run? When I’m busy, there will be no one to keep her company. I don’t want her to go through that. Besides, I have a housekeeper at home, so I’ll be taken care of.”

“So what’s your plan, sis? Mom’s already started packing for the trip,” Eric said, looking concerned.

Emma thought for a moment before finally sharing the plan she had already decided on.
