Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 208

Thomas felt a pang of concern seeing his daughter doing menial work. He believed that since Evan had hired Tessa to care for him, it was only natural for her to do her job.

"Dad!"

Melissa gave her father a disapproving look before saying softly, "She's been taking care of you all night; she must be tired. Since I'm back, let me look after you."

Her mood had improved drastically. The gloom and frustration of the past few days were gone, and she spoke to her father with more patience. The warmth between them was palpable.

Thomas smiled and asked, "Mr. Cooper wasn't upset with you because of that phone call I made, was he?"

At his words, Melissa's hand, which was wiping her father's arm, paused for a moment. Then, thinking of what happened last night, she smiled and shook her head. "No, he wouldn't get upset over something like that."

"That's good!"

"Sigh."

Thomas let out a breath. "I've been on edge these past few days, worried that my call upset Mr. Cooper and that he would take it out on you."

"How could he?" Melissa smiled gently. "He wouldn't be upset with me."

Before, Melissa wouldn't have had the confidence to say that. But now…

As they were talking, a nurse knocked on the door. "Mr. Carter, it's time for your tests at the lab!"

"Okay!"

But his tone was so professional, as if he were merely a doctor speaking to his patient with no other implications. Emma couldn't find another reason to refuse and had no choice but to agree.

"Sandra will take you to the lab for your final pre-op check. After that, you can go home and rest."

Nathan organized the reports and handed them back to Emma.

There were other patients waiting outside, so Emma didn't say anything more. She just murmured another thank you and left the office.

The lab's waiting area was crowded. Emma found an empty seat and sat down to wait for her name to be called.

A short while later, from the other end of the hallway, two people pushing a middle-aged man in a wheelchair approached. Everyone had been waiting in line, but upon their arrival, the head of the lab immediately asked the others to wait and arranged for them to be seen first.
