Intangible assets and other claimable property added another $63 million to the total.
All together, it came to $221 million.
$221 million was only about a third of Evan's total fortune. Emma felt this was the most fair and objective settlement for both of them.
Just three minutes after she sent the message, her screen lit up with a notification.
She opened it—[Evan: Everything’s a problem.]
Everything’s a problem?
What was wrong with it? The moment she tried to take her share of his assets, it was a problem. Did he not think about problems when he was cheating on her?
Emma’s brow furrowed as a wave of anger started to build inside her.
Her fingers tapped on the screen, ready to fire back and start a fight with him. But then she decided it wasn't worth it. If things got difficult, they could just go to court. She deleted the text she had typed and turned off her phone.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town.
During a high-level meeting at the Evanma Group, the R&D manager, who was in the middle of a project update, suddenly saw Evan, seated at the head of the table, slowly break into a smile.
He then put down his phone, seemingly in a much better mood.
The R&D manager didn't dare assume it was because of his stellar report. He just figured his boss was in a good mood today, which probably meant no one would get chewed out.
Evan came home early that day. Melissa was still in the kitchen preparing dinner when she heard a noise at the entryway.
The main courses for dinner were a beef and tomato stew, sautéed greens with garlic, spicy shredded pork, and a light egg soup.
They were all simple, home-cooked dishes. Melissa sat close to Evan, and she stood to ladle a bowl of soup for him, placing it by his side.
Then, she used her utensils to place a piece of beef, tender and marbled, onto his plate.
“You have to try this. I went to the market first thing this morning to buy it. It was so fresh. You won’t believe it—when I got there so early, the butcher hadn't even opened yet, but there was already a long line of seniors waiting outside. Even if I’d never bought from there before, seeing that crowd, I knew their meat had to be good. And when I brought it home, I could see I was right…”
Melissa chattered on beside Evan, like a young woman glowing with the flush of new love, her face radiant with happiness.
But Evan just ate his food seriously, occasionally nodding in agreement without saying or asking much. His indifferent attitude slowly caused Melissa, who had been happily sharing her day, to fall silent.
