Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 230

Melissa’s sobs grew quieter. Perhaps sensing the man beside her had gone completely still, she slowly stopped crying and turned to look at him.

Evan’s gaze was cold, icy, and even held a hint of mockery.

Melissa’s hand, which was wiping her tears, froze. A moment of confusion flashed in her eyes. When she came to her senses, she reverted to her initial cautiousness. She timidly reached out and tugged on the corner of his shirt, calling out softly, “Mr. Cooper…”

Mr. Cooper…

She hadn’t used that name in a long time. After that one night, she had believed her relationship with Evan had undergone a fundamental change. So, she had slowly let go of her initial caution and reserve, gradually opening up.

“Yes?”

Evan’s face was impassive. Seeing her so timid, he just pulled his lips into a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

“Are you done crying?”

His left hand rose to her cheek, his thumb gently brushing away a tear that had yet to fall.

Melissa shook her head slightly. She belatedly realized that Evan was displeased, and in an instant, she became reserved and careful again.

“Good. It’s good that you’re not crying anymore.”

Evan chuckled softly and then stood up.

Before Melissa could react, she saw that he was about to leave. She instinctively grabbed his sleeve again, looking up at him with a timid expression. “Aren’t you going to eat?”

She wanted to stay in bed, but the dual torment of her mind and body was too much. Unwilling to be left alone in the apartment, she quickly got ready and drove to the hospital.

While waiting for the elevator on the ground floor, Melissa kept her eyes downcast, looking completely listless. She heard the chime as the elevator doors opened.

Without even glancing inside, she mechanically stepped forward. In the cramped space, it seemed there was another person.

Melissa paid no mind until she unintentionally looked up at the reflective elevator wall and noticed that the person standing behind her was Emma.

She stood calmly in a corner of the elevator. Her eyes met Melissa’s in the reflection for a split second before she calmly looked away.

Even though she had done nothing, that brief moment of eye contact was enough to scare Melissa half to death.
