Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 59

Once in the bedroom, Emma took off her coat and remembered that her car was still at the police station. They had driven home in Evan’s Bentley.

The bedroom door opened, and someone walked in.

Seeing it was Evan, Emma said, “Could you ask Jason to pick up my car for me later? It’s still at the station.”

Evan stared at her, his eyes fixed on her. He just managed a soft “Mm.”

Emma turned to her purse and took out her car keys. “Here are the keys. It’s too late tonight, have him go tomorrow.”

“Okay…” Evan replied, his voice hoarse.

Hearing his tone, Emma finally gave him a proper look. Her expression was neutral as she gestured toward the bathroom. “Do you want to shower first? If you do, I’ll let you…”

“Mmph…”

Before Emma could finish, Evan rushed forward, wrapped his arms around her, and crushed his mouth against hers.

“Get… get off me! Let go!”

Emma struggled desperately, but Evan acted as if he couldn’t hear her, holding her tight. His tongue pushed into her mouth, trying to deepen the kiss when—

“Hiss…”

Evan recoiled, his thumb brushing his lip, where he could already taste the faint, metallic tang of blood.

Emma scrambled backward, clutching the coat she had just taken off, and pressed herself against the wall, watching him warily, as if ready to fight back if he came at her again.

“Emma…”

He couldn’t stand seeing her so guarded against him. Evan took a step forward. His normally immaculate hair was a mess, a red cut was on his lip, not yet dry, and the top two buttons of his white shirt were undone. He looked completely wrecked.

He looked at Emma, his eyes filled with sorrow. “Emma, please, let me explain…”

He reached out, wanting to touch her, but his hand was met with a sharp slap.

Emma stared back, her eyes devoid of anything but chilling indifference.

“…Yes.”

After a long pause, Evan finally mumbled his admission.

“Right. It was you. So that settles it, doesn’t it?”

Emma let out a scornful laugh, unsurprised by the answer.

If the man in the photo was him, then the child must be his too.

Otherwise, why would the paparazzi have photographed him going in and out of a hospital in the middle of the night?

Emma had already made up her mind, but she said nothing aloud.

Evan didn’t realize Emma had misunderstood and thought he had a child with someone else, so he just kept explaining desperately, “Emma, the person in the photo is me, but… but that was taken a long time ago. I don’t know why they released it this morning, but I promise you, I will never have any contact with that girl again. I won’t hurt you again. Please, just trust me one more time, okay?”
