“Ladies and gentlemen! It gives me great pleasure to present you, your new King and Queen!” Theresa announced.

As soon as the words were out of her mouth, a gun went off and I felt it coming straight for my heart. It was like the world slowed down and everything was in slow motion.

Wyatt leaped in front of me, trying to shield me from the attack, but I had my eyes locked on the bullet that was headed straight for me. The room was filled with shocked and scared expressions, but my focus was on the bullet.

As it inched closer, I felt this internal need to protect my baby. The only problem was, I didn’t know how. I felt an explosive energy leave my body and surround Wyatt and myself. It had hues of green and silver swimming around the sphere that surrounded us.

The bullet hit the sphere and simply fell to the ground. My baby produced a force shield that protected his dad and mom. I knew this was not me doing it but it was the baby protecting us. Just how powerful was this child?

Wyatt’s head was looking all around at the sphere before turning to face me. “How are you doing it?” He asked in awe.

“Can we talk about that later? There are more important matters to handle!” I said, starting to get angry. Not at Wyatt but at this motherfucker that thought it was appropriated to take a shot at me!

“Reed is on it.” Wyatt said, “Can you take it down?”

I opened my mouth to speak but shut it again as I didn’t know if I could take it down. I tried sending a message to the baby to let him know it was okay and I tried relaxing myself, but nothing seemed to help. Finally, I just shrugged at Wyatt. He looked around and stuck his hand out of it and, surprisingly, it went through. So, he took his whole body and stepped out and the sphere wrapped around me.

It looked like I was in an egg. I wonder if the baby senses more danger.

“QUIET!” Wyatt shouted as the room had erupted into chaos. “The situation is being handled and everyone is safe and able to proceed with the celebration!” Slowly, everyone nodded and sat back down. The music started playing.

“Reed found a teenager with a slit throat in the woods about 100 yards away. No knife”, Wyatt whispered to me as we made our way down the aisle and to our seats.

“Interesting” I said slowly. The sphere slowly lessened but I felt it on the surface at my belly waiting to be put up again if needed.

People started coming up to us and greeting us, congratulating us on our new titles. It was all going good till the next person in line was Damian.

“It is a pleasure to see you again. Wyatt, this is Damian and his mate, Holly. And you know my mate, King Wyatt,” I said, making the introduction. Wyatt and Damian’s handshake was pretty firm from what I could see. Holly looked horrible.

“I am surprised you didn’t bring your cousin with you today?” I asked with a hint of pettiness in my voice.

“She is here, I just don’t know where.” Holly said dismissively.

Part of me wanted to call her out for being disrespectful, but I let it slide. Wyatt didn’t, however.

“You will address her accordingly!” He firmly stated, glaring at them.

“My apologizes King Wyatt and Queen Nina. My dear mate forgets her childhood friend has moved on and it hurts us that we haven’t stayed in touch. Maybe this will allow us to build a relationship of sorts, even if it is business.” Damian said, sounding politically correct, but the silent jabs were still there.

“Fortunately for us, we have already picked our staff and are not looking to increase our business partners at this time. I have put my childhood behind me, and I suggest you do the same,” I said with an edge of annoyance.

“I am sorry to hear that, I am sure we will speak again… soon.” Damian said ominously with an evil smirk and walked away, pulling a glaring Holly behind him.

“I don’t like the sound of that,” Wyalt said in my ear.

“Me either I do need to use the restroom.”

“I’ll walk you there”, Wyatt said

“Don’t bother! It is just right inside, and we still have a lot of people to greet. Stay and mingle, I will be back in five minutes!” I said, blowing off his concern.

As I made my way to the bathroom, multiple people kept stopping me to say hello or congratulations. Thankfully, Kelly was standing right there

“Hey queenie!” Kelly said, smiling.

“Hey, I am trying to make it to the bathroom!”

“I need to go too, let’s all go!” Brooke said, standing up.

Kelly and I looked at each other but didn’t say anything else.

It took about another 10 minutes before we reached the bathroom. There must be hundreds of people out there trying to speak with me! It was exhausting! However, I made my way into a stall and Kelly was in the other one.

Since there were only two, Brooke was waiting by the sink.

We didn’t speak as we both finished our business. Kelly finished first and walked out of the bathroom. I heard the sink turn on and then I heard a loud THUD!

Looking under the stalls, I saw Kelly lying there, on the ground with blood pouring from her head! Oh s**t! Shemust have passed out! Quickly finishing up, I walked out of the stall and saw Brooke holding a gun, straight at me.

The baby instantly put up the shield to protect me but my eyes were on Kelly. The blood on the butt of the gun told me Kelly did not fall on the floor from passing out, Brooke hit her.

“Why?” l asked. I really just needed an answer.

“You will get your answers later. If you even link Wyatt or anyone, I will kill Kelly and the stupid baby!” Brooke said, pointing the gun at her sister. I can’t have that. Weighing my options, if I blast her, Kelly will feel that and that will harm the baby. I can’t electrocute her unless I am close to her and she is keeping her distance. If I play along, | will get to see who is at the end of all of this! Plus, I can keep Kelly safe. “The third tile from the bottom, on the right. Kick it. It is a secret passage out of here. Turning, I saw the tile that had a footprint on it. Fair enough. No one would think anything otherwise. I walked up to it and gave it a push.

Sure enough, the wall slid open and relieved an opening around the size of a normal doorway. Damn, Reed is good.

“Hurry up!” Brooke said and picked up the lifeless body of Kelly.
