Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 640

Noticing something off about Eloise’s expression, Sylvia asked, a little confused, “Ms. Eloise, is something wrong?”

Eloise seemed lost in thought. “I don’t remember these kinds of requirements before. Maybe college applications are different now. Did you check everything carefully?”

“Yeah, I did. I emailed the admissions office of one school and called the other to double-check.” Sylvia replied.

Eloise leaned back in her chair, one eyebrow raised, clearly surprised.

“You seem awfully eager to get out of here. You got all your answers pretty quick.”

“Ms. Eloise, I’m not trying to leave the studio—I just want to learn as much as I can, as soon as possible,” Sylvia hurried to explain.

Eloise shook her head with a laugh. “You might believe that, but I don’t.”

Sylvia replied earnestly, “Ms. Eloise, I’m going with my boyfriend. I really think it’ll be good for me.”

Eloise paused, as if something had just clicked, and then waved her hand. “Alright, just make sure you follow up on the rest of your tasks.”

Sylvia nodded and left the office.

As she closed the door, she caught a glimpse of Eloise typing something on her phone. Sylvia pressed her lips together, knowing exactly who Eloise was texting.

It was Rupert.

Eloise might have forgotten, thanks to her hangover, but Sylvia remembered clearly. The last time they were at the pub together, Eloise had too much to drink and let slip a lot of things.

One of them was that she promised Rupert she’d keep an eye on Sylvia.

Sylvia had always pretended not to know. She didn’t want to lose her job or stir up unnecessary trouble.

Now, at least, she felt a bit of relief.

Her answer just now wasn’t just for Eloise—it was for Rupert, too.

Back at her desk, Sylvia realized Fay had already spread the news of her study plans all over the studio. Even the janitor downstairs congratulated her as she walked by.

Sylvia could only awkwardly explain, over and over, that she hadn’t even been accepted yet—but everyone seemed to have bought Fay’s story and wouldn’t listen.

Eventually, she just gave up and smiled, too tired to keep correcting people.

A couple of days went by.

Sylvia still went to physical therapy every morning. Progress was slow, but at least she could feel her fingers more when she held a pen.
