Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 652

The man stopped by the bed, gazing down at Sylvia, but he didn't know what to do.

He raised his hand, but just as he was about to touch her, her brows knitted together. She clutched the blanket with one hand and curled in on herself.

It was as if her slender body was enduring some immense agony.

In the end, his hand didn't fall. He merely stroked her hair gently a few times.

The soft strands tangled around his fingertips, making his heart feel equally constricted. Only a profound stillness remained in his eyes.

He lowered his hand and sat on the edge of the bed, quietly watching her.

It wasn't until the moonlight deepened that he vanished like a phantom.

From start to finish, he hadn't uttered a single word.

The faint scent in the air lingered before gradually fading away, and only then did Sylvia slowly open her eyes, staring straight at the tightly closed door.

A shadow flickered past the gap beneath the door, and then there was nothing.

Her seemingly calm eyes shimmered with an uncontrollable, faint light.

In the end, all she could do was pull the blanket up, wrapping herself completely.

...

A week later, it was time for her discharge.

Sylvia's wounds had mostly healed, but her already weakened hand was now in an even worse state.

She couldn't even hold a fork.

When Chris Lennon and the other doctors helped her with her follow-up examination, the optimism they had previously shown about her injured fingers was entirely gone. All of their expressions were grim.

Chris even had to think for a long time before he could put together a comforting sentence. "It's... it's fine. Just take your time with the recovery."

His colleague shot him a glance before nodding in agreement.

Sylvia looked at the stitched wounds, feeling a bitter lump in her throat, but she didn't want to ruin Chris's good intentions.

"Don't worry, I won't give up. I'll cooperate with the treatment."

"And I'll be here to help her through it," Lester said, stepping forward to support Sylvia.

Sylvia looked up and smiled at him. Thanks to his company recently, her days in the hospital hadn't been nearly as unbearable.

"Your wounds haven't fully healed yet. Pollen could interfere with the healing process. I'll... I'll take these for you."

Without waiting for Reese to speak, Chris simply grabbed the flowers and carried them away.

Reese pursed her lips awkwardly. "I'm sorry, I didn't know."

Sylvia offered a comforting smile. "If Dr. Chris hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have known either. Thank you for coming to see me anyway."

Reese smiled, then looked up at Lester and asked, "Lester, did you ask her for me?"

Lester hesitated and shook his head. "Reese, stop it. Sylvia's hand is still injured. She needs to rest."

Sylvia looked at the two of them suspiciously. "Ask me what?"

Chapter 652 2

Hearing this, it finally clicked for Sylvia that Reese and Rupert were getting married next week.

So soon.
